Justa reminder that June 6-7-8 is the weekend of the best military history event and show in the US, the Mid Atlantic Air Museums WWII weekend in Reading PA.
Here are some highlights from the website:[red]
Over the past 12 years, the Mid Atlantic Air Museum's World War II Weekend has become the largest, best-attended and most unique commemoration of its kind in the nation. What began as the recreation of a WW II airfield has grown to encampments representing the European and Pacific Theatres of War, an extensive homefront display, more than 70 period aircraft, 200 vehicles and over a thousand living history re-enactors and entertainers.
The event has been called "Simply the BEST military show in the United States" by Militaria International Magazine. The event is much MUCH more than an "airshow". It¹s actually six shows in ONE... an airshow, military vehicle show, 1940's entertainment festival, a living history encampment and re-enactment, military collector's show, and a living classroom, providing the opportunity for people to meet, hear from, and talk to many special WW II personalities. WW II WEEKEND transports you back in time to the most entertaining history lesson that you will receive all year.
Saturday the gates open to a level of activity not seen since 1945. Two different venues host "briefings" by special WW II guest presenters. You¹ll hear from Pearl Harbor survivor Master Chief Petty Officer Glenn Lane, Kingfisher pilot on the USS Arizona, Corsair Ace Bob McClurg who was "Pappy" Boyington's wingman, Col. Robert Morgan pilot of the Memphis Belle, celebrating his 60th anniversary of the famed 25th mission, members of the 101st Airborne Easy company... portrayed in the mini-series "Band of Brothers", Lt. Carl Constein, C-46 "Hump" pilot, Lt. Frank Speer, P-51 Ace, Maj. Dick Hewitt, veteran of 144 combat missions, Sgt. Bill Fili, B-24 gunner over the Ploesti oil fields, Lt. Robert Bolinder, P-61 pilot credited with 4 kills with the 422nd NFS, and Brad McManus, P-38 pilot from the "The Lost Squadron" and members of the Tuskegee Airmen . Noted aviation artists Gil Cohen, David Sample, and Raymond Moats will also be on hand.
Opportunity abounds for the ultimate experience as you hop a ride in a variety of WW II aircraft... from trainers to the B-17 and SBD Dauntless. You can even take a special D-Day flight aboard a C-47 restored as the lead aircraft of that "Longest Day". There will be loads of informal flying on Friday (There is NO organized show flying on Friday) and demonstration flying by WW II aircraft on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. You can also inspect all the aircraft on the ground and glimpse the progress being made on the P-61 Black Widow in the air museum's restoration shop... displays and exhibits will fill the Museum hangar.[/red]
