Boom for Busty Danish Natural Resources Eva Andersen reported some very good news in yesterday's Jyllands-Posten (Danish Women Are Bursting with Health): the trend has been upward (meaning, I suppose, "outward") for some time in women's bust-sizes there. She reported agreement on this point among anthropologists, gender-researchers (kønsforskeren - you know, those fellow students who were into "Gender Studies" back in college) and, most definitive of all, national underwear producers. Amazing, huh?, that this would even come up in the news. I can think of a few countries where it surely wouldn't. But Jyllands-Posten is certainly a mainstream Danish newspaper, distributed not just in Jutland (i.e. the Danish mainland, the Jylland in the paper's name) but nation-wide. It's certainly no tabloid, certainly in the format sense but also in the serious news-consuming public it seeks to address. But if maybe some of you think that's bad, then we don't even need to get into the other article also recently carried by Jyllands-Posten (and, this time, reported by some other leading dailies as well), entitled "Porno as Personal Benefit." That outlined the new initiative by the Danish IT firm LL Media (based indeed in Jylland) to pay for access to pornography for its workers - on their personal time only, of course. The thinking is that getting that out of the way at home (or wherever) makes employees more focussed and effective while at work. Those racy Scandinavians! But back to Ms. Andersen's uplifting message. She quotes Susanne Stuhr, director of the lingerie firm Femilet as follows: "We can clearly see a development. Where the standard size earlier was 75B, these days we sell at least as many C- and D-cups. It's my impression that young women today generally have much larger breasts. Many are slim and even use up to an E- or F-cup." It seems that Danish women are also getting taller as well, now ranking up with the Swedes and the Dutch as the tallest in Europe. As for the suspicion all of you are holding: Yes, all those larger Danish bust measurements are for real, and not artificially derived. "The breasts are genuine [ægte]," Ms. Andersen states flat-out. (What, not even any rounding errors?) It's all due to rising health and nutrition standards, with most childhood diseases now eliminated through vaccinations and many more vitamins and minerals consumed in Danish girls' diets. There's no word in the article whether this information has been passed on to the Danish National Tourism Office, where perhaps it could be useful in another "Explore Denmark"-type of advertising campaign. But one other thing is clear: this "onward-and-upward" trend can't continue for long. As anthropologist Pia Bennike notes (wistfully?), "Nature always has one sort of boundary or another." www.livingineurope.net/archives/000300.html |

Back home, I'd travel a little north to a certain drag track/tractor pull area in "dairy country". For some reason, all those blond blue eyed overall wearin' farm girls all had HUGE TA-TAS! Must be the milk. Too bad you'd get arrested for milking them (the gals, not the cows!)

| Doesn't surprise me. I've got two Danish nephews and they're positively snobbish when it comes to wymynz--the older one is always saying that everyone in the world knows that the danes have the best babes in the world. (So I asked him why his present girlie is from the Faroe Islands...but that's another story). Every Dane that I've met has pretty much shared this sentiment. Silly fools! Everyone knows that VENEZUELAN wymynz are the most beautiful in the world!!! |
