Dear Friend of the Second Amendment,

State Senator Ginny Burdick has announced plans to introduce a ban on
semi-automatic firearms in Oregon as soon as the next session begins.

Sen. Burdick pledged as one of her top priorities for 2005 to
introduce "legislation to impose a statewide ban on assault weapons
if Congress fails to renew the national ban...."

Now that the national ban has sunset we can expect Burdick to come
out in full force from day one, that is, IF she is reelected.

Thankfully, that's a big IF, because Burdick has a very credible
opponent this election in John Wight.

John Wight is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and has
earned the endorsement of Gun Owners of America Political Victory
Fund.

Even if you live outside of the 18th Senate District, it is
absolutely crucial that you support the John Wight for Senate
campaign because Sen. Burdick is not just your garden-variety
anti-gun legislator.

If you follow Oregon state politics even casually, you know that Sen.
Burdick is obsessed with regulating your firearms out of existence.
This is no understatement.  As her actions attest, Burdick works
enthusiastically to ban firearms, close down gun shows, impose
waiting periods, and create "criminal safe zones" where no guns are
allowed even for permit holders.

Even worse, if Burdick is reelected there is a good chance she will
become the chairman of the powerful Judiciary Committee if her Party
gains control of the senate (now evenly divided between Republicans
and Democrats).  The Judiciary Committee has primary jurisdiction
over almost all firearms related legislation.

Gun Owners of America and its supporters cannot sit idly by and let
this happen.  That is why I am asking you to give as generously as
you can to John Wight for Senate.

John Wight is a 100% supporter of your firearms freedoms and he will
fight for you in Salem.

This is an election we can win, but only if we pull together.

Of course, elections cannot be won without money.  Sen. Burdick is
the darling of the anti-gun movement and they will spend freely to
get her reelected.

We must make sure John Wight has the resources to win in November.

I encourage you to contribute as generously as possible to John Wight
for Senate.  You don't have to live in the district to contribute.
John Wight will be fighting for the gun rights of all Oregonians.

She's the state senator for district 18.  That's fairly rural Oregon.  Woodburn, Silverton, Scotts Mills, Sublimity and East.  These people don't give a shit about "Assault Weapons".

The bad news is... She's the one that started the "gunshow loophole" legislation and closed down private party sales of firearms at gunshows a few years back (I'm pretty sure).
