Spotted in SC a few weeks ago, in NC this week.

there are many color variations and orange is one of them its rare but not that rare
albino orange yellowish light colors splotches piebald you name it the vast majority of them in the wild however dont make it either you are the color of a log and blend in or you get eaten

Lot's of the Carolina's river banks and bottoms are red clay, from bright reddish to an orange color that looks like what's on that gator. you find turtles with that tint as well here. Where I am is particularly bad, with the clay the consistency of modeling clay. Everything that feeds in and around the rivers ingest it and their bodies get covered and permanently stained.
