I have just aquired a bushy shorty and have narrowed the optics down to these 2.

bushnell holosight
OKO

If i go with the oko i am sure i will use a scout style mount to put it forward of the carry handle.

I would like to do the same with the Holosight if i decided on that. If that is not feasable is the carry handle mount a realistic option without a cheek rest.

Any suggestion one way or the other? i have read excellent reviews on both sights in the optics forum. I am looking at about the same price either way. About 30.00 different for the holosight. I would primiarly like to use this in 3 gun and tacticle competition in the near future. The reflex is out. I tried one and wasn't really impressed. The Aimpoint, while nice, i'm not sure it's worth the extra 100.00+ in cost.

Leupold man Leupold!

I like the Gilmore.  Now they now have a duel mode tactical model that has a selectable 3x or 1x.  Since you're running off batteries, consider these.

if you want to duel, use an Epee like real men.  If you want DUAL modes on a scope, get what Chaingun is talkin about!  hehehe

not sure i like the leupold red dot setup. I'll look for one locally to see how it fits my eye. I'd like something fairly strudy and that thing looks too pretty for field use.

I'm considering flat black spraypaint for the silver Gilmore.  I like the brightness level set  between 6 through 8.

that new leupold looks nice but not sure it would fit my purpose. I want something with no eye relief in red dot style setup. The name of the game for this rifle will be speed. A standard scope just won't do as a good cheek weld takes time. Thus the reason i am looking into the holosight or the oko.

Do you know the price?  I did a quick look and was unable to find one.

Thanks.

Get the OKO.  I have them and the ATN Ultra.  I favor these designs OVER the Bushnell, cuz the Bushnell has that big, wide shell.  Off axis viewing is not affected directly by the size of the housing, but it simply creates a larger footprint over your field of view.  The OKO and ATN Ultra have a narrow housing for the dichro lens.  It seems to shave that extra little cha cha off your target acquisistion time, especially if you are moving from target to target quickly.

I went with the new version Holosight with the 1MOA reticle. Got it on sale from Natchez for $150/$274 list. To me it looks more durable than the others and I wanted something fast also. The OKO has that tinny cover, I don't
like that look. I figure I can use the Holosight on my 870 HD if I don't like it on my AR.

I destroyed mine on my M16.  Rattled apart in a couple of weeks.  Won't do that again... probably ok with a semi-auto though.

Well you have to take what I say with a grain of salt (I am the US importer of the OKO sight), but here goes....

I first bought the OKO at shot-show 99' as a dealer sample and used it on my personnel rifle for almost a full year before I decided to sell the sights. The one-pictured below is on my full auto 9mm (this is also the gun I let the cops play with). You will notice that there is no steel cover on it. I have had this rifle hit the deck several times and I don't use a hard case. The point of impact has not change in the 4 months of heavy use. The OKO sight is simple to mount, easy to use and in my opinion very rugged and reliable. You can get them From Castle Arms (Tim and John from right here on AR15.com), DPMS, Dillon and Brownells. I know some of these companies have a no questions asked return policy, so how can you loose?
