A friend of mine is looking for a *inexpensive* but not *cheap*  shotgun, mostly just for blasting stuff and having fun.

He ran across a Charles Daly auto shotty for $280............

What do you guys think about Charles Daly?  Is it good or not?

They have been reported on shotgunworld.com to be shitty.  They jam and malfunction frequently.  I would go with the 870 express Remington for less cost.

I have one of the over/unders and its a great gun.

I should add that the old Charles Daly shotguns are not the same as these new autoloader ones for sale at Walmart.  The new ones are cheap made 90% of the time.

The same way Armalite now is not like Armalite 1960.

They are not bad at all for the price. There finish is bit rough around the edges but, for a field gun they are priced very fair and seem to work fine. They are not a Browning or Berretta so if that is what you were looking for then this is not it. I think they are being made in Turkey. So far I have had nothing but, good luck with Charles Daly products.

I have one of those pictured - It is 100% unless you  use those sporting clays target loads, it doesn't like those loads.  Otherwise, good gun.

I wouldn't.

Get a used 1100.  Or spend a little more and a used 11-87.

Or a used Winchester 1400.

If it is like their 1911s, beware. Time to pony up for an 870.

You mean like the Federal value packs at WallyWorld?

The O/U's and side by sides are very nice......the auto's and pump guns aren't.

Charles Daly doesn't make any firearms. The firearms are bought from companies from all over the world. Some are good, some not so good. I like the Mausers.

For that price, get a Saiga!

If you ever find a Charles Dailey SxS that was made in Prussia buy it they are very, very high quality shotguns they rank right up there with best quality English and Italian.
