what are your opinions? is it helpful or harmful or does it change anything at all...i recently got a Concealed Weapons Permit and am trying to decide if its a good idea or not. Doing it here in North Dakota might seem like overkill because we have the lowest crime in the country but i would probably use it to be an open carry advocate to show people that guns arent evil and what i am doing is legal.

Here in MN is also a open carry state though I most often carry concealed for my own protection and the element of suprise. Open carry is a personal preference and also sometimes more hassle than it is worth. When I got my permit almost 2 years ago I OC'd for a couple months, When I went out I either got fully ignored or got dirty looks from the public in all it was my right and I didn't really care. Now I generally conceal the firearm for specific reasons, the only time I OC really is when I take the dog for walks at night around the neighborhood other than that I conceal at all times. With that said there is another aspect of OC and that is drawing attention and being a target. You have to think about it, you carry to protect yourself and your family from the bad people potentially with guns around you. The last thing you want is for them to know you have a gun also, you will be the first target on the list.

OC has many affects on the public, some good and some mixed feelings. You have to decide what route you want to take, do you feel that yourself solely OCing will really make enough of an impact on the people? To me its not worth it to OC, if you want to make a statement get with some CCW advocates in your area and if possible attend some planned outings and BBQ's where your CCW people get together to display these types of things to the public. You can usually find some good people on the forums, search for carry forms or gun forums and look for people in your ND area. I know exactly how you feel, make the best decision for you.. Good luck and welcome! SD79

Know the laws, know how you should interact with the police, acknowledge but largely ignore the public.  No reason not to IF your situational awareness is in overdrive.  Check in with OpenCarry.org these discussions always degenerate, so I won't say any more.

I open carry to and from the range at times, but mainly I carry concealed. If I am carrying for defense, I like the OPSEC advantage.

Police around here are OK with it, but the sheeple might bring unwanted attention to it.

Nice avatar emsjeep, I used to have one like that......

State of Georgia allows open carry and I will at times carry open if I have my 1911 if I have my Glock 19 I hide itThis area is VERY pro-gun and the sheriff signs for NFA itemsLocals here grew up around guns so open carry doesnt excite them unless Im carrying my custom 1911!I have carried open in Atlanta getting gas and nobody bothered me for money and thats fine with me.I carry concealed most of the time in town just to have the edge on a felon but if I have been hunting or on trails with the horses I dont try to conceal.Personally I Couldnt give a shit if it offends a libtard because no matter what you do to appease them they want MORE!Its time for the gun community to grow some balls and say enough! JOIN NRA,GOA,SAFARI CLUB,OR SOMETHING BUT DONT CRY WITH YOUR THUMB UP YOUR AZZ!

I don't want people to know I have a firearm.  I never open carry.
