I know the feeling....I've got a Chesapeake who is 10 years old.  She has been hunted hard for a long time.  That old dog goes to work with me every day and loves it.  Gonna be a sad day when she has to go.

My faithful beagle, Scooter, is 14 years old and I dread the day that he will leave me.

I already have his gravesite picked out.

It's on the Hun Farm which has been in my family since 1885.

At the old homestead where my grandmother and father were both born is a storm cellar.

He'll be laid to rest there, and will await me there until I come to fetch him one bright and glorious morning.

I'll whistle, he'll get up and shake off this dust, and we will walk the farm roads and the fields as we did before.

Him walking about 20 feet in front of me, and always looking over his shoulder to make certain that I am following.

Losing a dog is one of the worst things ever. Not only are they are ever faithful friend, but they become part of your family, especially if they're the only family you have left. Gotta love em.
