They were fucking slow as hell with it this year. Not sure what took so long. But it's finally here! Football Outsiders Adjusted Interceptions for the 2021 season.

TLDR how it works reminder, they add an interception for all the balls that SHOULD have been intercepted, but weren't (balls defenders outright dropped). Then they subtract an interception for each one that was caught after being tipped up by receivers who should have caught the ball. They subtract hail mary/desperation interceptions, and then subtract the dropped interceptions that were first tipped by a receiver. Then the final number is what the quarterback's attributed interceptions should have been for the season.

Ben Roethlisberger was the luckiest quarterback in 2021. Had ten interceptions, but he had an additional SIXTEEN passes that were dropped by defenders. That's the most dropped interceptions in a single season (since they have been attributed in 2007). The previous record was 15 by Mark Sanchez in 2010. Ben also had ZERO interceptions from wide receiver tipped balls.

Roethlisberger was also the luckiest quarterback in the NFL in 2020 and 2016. So he has had the most drops in the entire NFL three times in the last 6 seasons... And he only played 2 games in 2019, so 5 qualifying seasons for Ben. 3 out of 5... It's all those Cleveland and Cincinnati defenders I'm sure.

The higher the positive adjustment the luckier a quarterback was (more drops, fewer tips).

Pat Mahomes had the 3rd most dropped interceptions in the NFL (10) but also had the most WR tipped interceptions in the NFL (5). No other quarterback had more than 2 tipped interceptions. So he was both one of the luckiest and unluckiest players simultaneously.

Only 4 players had 10 or more dropped interceptions: Ben, Heinicke, Mahomes and Tannehill.

14 quarterbacks had at least 250 pass attempts with ZERO being tipped up and picked off (lucky): Rodgers, Daniel Jones, Justin Fields, Wentz, Cousins, Bridgewater, Goff, Darnold, Mayfield, Matt Ryan, Garoppolo, Josh Allen, Heinicke, Roethlisberger.

After formulating a new Interception Percentage, Aaron Rodgers (MVP) and Tom Brady (MVP robbed) tied for the lowest INT rate in the NFL at 1.7% (Rodgers was 0.8, Brady was 1.7, no change).

Wentz supposedly only having 6 dropped INTs all season is highly questionable.

During the Colts' rain soaked game against the 49ers Wentz had at least 4 dropped INTs in that game alone.  Hell, that might have just been in the first half.

On average, quarterbacks throw 30% more interceptions than expected in a season. That's the league average from 2007-2020. Using that historical average, and the new adjusted interception rates, you come out with a way to gauge the quarterbacks overall interception luck by how many more interceptions they should have ended the season with.

Roethlisberger ended with 9.2 interceptions below expected avg, luckiest by far.
2nd was Heinicke with 4.2 interceptions fewer.
Ben was more than 2 times "luckier" than the 2nd luckiest quarterback this year.

Rodgers was 6th with 2.9 fewer.
Josh Allen was 9th with 2.7 fewer.
Wilson 13th with 2.5 fewer.
Dak 15th with 2.3 fewer.
Mahomes 18th with 0.8 fewer (border line of becoming unlucky).

When you get to "unlucky" territory (more INTs than expected, based on adjusted INTs):
1st: Justin Herbert with 3.5 more.
2nd: Lamar Jackson 3.0 more.
3rd: Tom Brady with 2.8 more.

Good news, he is really just a special teamer. He played 0 defensive snaps for the Bills last season. He was due league minimum with no guarantees this season. I would expect he will probably be straight up released or moved to the practice squad. No point in holding a roster spot for a league minimum special teamer while he is suspended for 6 games.

Former Cowboys RB Marion Barber found dead in his apartment by Frisco police today. Cause of death unknown. Police were called out for a welfare check. Barber was 38.

Besides what you said we lost 1 lb and added 3 including a (very surprising) 3rd round pick. And the base defense uses 2.
The loss to the Bills is approximately zero.

That being said what are the ethics if a guy gets suspended for a PED that the team encouraged him to use?
I don't know that, just speculating.

Well he had the most productive back in the league so I think he had a good amount of play action to Taylor. I also don’t think he was really taking risks or gun slinging. I remember most the talk around him last year was his play was just pretty average.

Also I’d imagine stats like these are kind of subjective. Maybe a play we thought should count wasn’t counted by whoever came up with these stats.

That’s fucked in two ways.

1. It refers to sexually assaulting/harassing 23 women as “a slip up.”

2. It implies even if Watson did it, Garrett doesn’t care.

Tom Brady is one of the most competitive guys I have ever seen. He has no chill when things start to go wrong and is always out for the throat. Even when playing in a charity event, just for fun, not even a full round of golf, on the very first tee box, before anyone has even hit a ball, he walks over to Rodgers and loudly says, "Lets fuck them up."

Is that real? That is an incredibly awkward Tweet. Whoever is working the late shift (10pm posting) on ABC's social media team should probably be transferred to a new department.

So not only was it real, but it's still up and unedited. If you're going to mention something about his playing career, and the guy just passed away, then one would assume you would at least be polite about it. "Former Pro-Bowl Dallas Cowboys running back" would have been just fine.

I'd understand if they were some great winning organization, but they're not.

Ignoring the historical reasons someone might want to play for the Raiders... Vegas has to be a super tempting place to play. Nevada has no income tax. 24 hour city. Night clubs galore. No winter weather. Fantastic new facilities with tons of fans. Lots of commercial/endorsement opportunities. Guaranteed primetime games. You're a 1 hour flight or 4 hour drive away from Los Angeles. It's really the perfect place for a young wealthy athlete to maximize their fun.

Of the top 20 highest DYAR (defense-adjusted yards above replacement) passing seasons in NFL history, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have 6 each and then the remaining 8 are all different quarterbacks.

The other 8 who have 1 each: Marino, Brees, Rodgers, Mahomes, Ryan, Culpepper, Rivers and Warner.
