RIP Correction Officer Casimiro "Maxi" Pomales.  Maxi had 22.5 years of state service, and was one of the most knowledgeable officers I've ever had the pleasure to work with.  He was killed while transporting an inmate to Albany for a medical appointment.  It looks like his van was side swiped and forced off the roadway when another car made an improper lane change.  The van rolled and Maxi was ejected.  His partner, Correction Officer John Minuck suffered non-life threatening injuries, same for the inmate.

We all know it can happen,
When we put our Colors on.
It only takes an instant,
Then one of us is gone.
...Day to day we walk our beat,
In God we put our faith.
'Cause we're the law inside the wall,
We keep the Public safe.
You've done the job that few can do,
Your shift is at an end.
Farewell my Brother, Rest in peace,
On you we could depend.
