This happened not too far from where I live. It sounds like the officer and neighbor are going to survive.

Police in Southern Minnesota say a man set a house fire, then shot and wounded an officer and neighbor who responded, before killing himself. The Martin County Sheriff's Office said Fairmont Officer Chad Sanow, a 6-year veteran of the force, and 28-year-old neighbor Matthew Van Watermulen were both shot Tuesday evening. Police said Sanow was dispatched to the house fire about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Both he and Van Watermulen, who was assisting him, were shot while trying to see if anyone was inside the burning home. Sanow was shot in the chest, and Van Watermulen was shot in the abdomen.

The fire chief of my hometown was murdered by a methamphibian who had just set his lab on fire.
