Now that Anheuser-Busch is owned by InBev, the company made the statement that they don't expect any cuts in the US as long as their taxes don't increase. Either InBev is completely ignorant of US current events (which they're not), or this was a flat out warning to the new administration not to raise corporate taxes. Yeah that'll work out well. I'd anticipate AB to be slashing jobs by February.
THIS is how SHTF gets started. Take away people's beer. |

hmm...prohibition round two??? this time by taxes???
isn't there also something in the Koran about alcohol too.... |

kiss st louis MO goodbye if that happens. Not really. The brewery here is actually pretty small and the corporate offices aren't that large of a local employer. Most of their production is done elsewhere. Besides, St. Louis is already a pretty nasty place. |

AB makes a LOT more than budwieser, they are also one of the largest growers of hops and certain grains in the country.
this will be a MASSIVE blow to the economy if they close shop and move over seas. they employ a shit ton of people nationwide. |

That they might have no choice is scary bt the threat should carry some weight. I remember watching some townhall meeting about micro-stamping. Olin and a few other heavy hitters showed up and threatened to uproot their operation. THe bill was basically slaughtered on the spot. |

AB also has supported hunters and the NRA extensively in the past. I am not a beer snob.

The brewery in my hometown (Cartersville, Ga) wouldnt fare well either........

who drinks that nasty shit anyway? word! About 80% of beer drinkers. We have a "micro" (not really micro, but it's not national yet) Kansas City based brewery called Boulevard. IIRC, the last time I took the brewery tour they were like 16th or 18th largest in the country. Budweiser brewed what they do in an entire year in about 11 hours. This is a big deal. |

Fairly genius move by InBev, really...
They were going to trim the fat anyway, now they can point to finger at the Democrats with at least enough credibility to fool some of the general public. Oh, and beer snobs are funny. |

Of course you are free to do as you please, but I just don't get this line of thinking. AB will still be made in America by Americans. Sure, the shots will be called by a Brazilian in Belgium, but that really won't have a major impact on most people... Grant's Farm, Busch Gardens, etc aside. |

I have a friend that works for budweiser in houston. I hope he dosen't get cut but to be honest he voted for obama so It's his own fault.

BTW, guys if you owned BUD and haven't checked your portofolio you need to.
BUD was automatically sold and you need to do something with that cash. I just rebought INBEV with it. |

who drinks that nasty shit anyway? This! Hate to go all Romney on the brewery, but perhaps a bankruptcy would allow them to focus on making the stuff not taste like watered down horse piss. I know its a matter of taste and I do not mean offense to those that enjoy the beer, but do you really enjoy it because of it's taste or of what the brand represents? |

It doesn't seem likely that they would buy a company then downsize the hell out of it in a few months because taxes went up. Seems far more likely that they will just charge more for beer.

The folks that hate American anything seem to be everywhere on this board. GM, Budweiser, fuck it, right? While I hate labor unions more than anyone, and would love for GM to file Chapter 11 and get rid of the UAW, a lot of folks here would just assume all American operations tank and give way to foreign competitors. Fuck off if thats you. I want no unions, and competitive American labor in the global workplace. I know its unlikely, but it's what I want damn it. |
