I've "HEARD" that there are OTHER Reserve options out there to finish out your 20 years, but not in the Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine Corps/Coast Guard......
But, I've never heard WHAT they are.... Does anyone out there know if that actually exists??? Would prefer to go back to the AF Reserve, but not sure that I can.... Looking for options... Thanks! |

The only way to complete your "20" is involved in the military, whether its in the Guard, Reserves or Active side in a respective service. So if you get out after 4 years and want to stay in, you need to join one of the Guard or Reserve functions (individual or unit) and you'll complete the "20". However, it must be in the active/ready component, not the inactive ready reserve which calls you up for a tour and then sends you back.
The other way to complete time in service towards retirement is to get a federal job. Your time in service equates to something in the federal world, you'd need to talk to the respective federal agency to understand how long you would have to serve to make that switch. |

One of the guys in my office is a USAR IMA. He does his entire reserve annual obligation in one big TAD to Ft Eustis for about 30-35 days and doesn't have to worry about drill weekends. I'm in the NAvy Res and I also drill in one big block or 2 shorter blocks vice drill weekends. |
