Relevant to my interests. I'm considering getting one for fishing.

What are some features/models to look for? And what about putting it on a vehicle to get it out to water?

My experience is pretty limited; I've only just got my own kayak about a 3 weeks ago but this is it

Lifetime Tamarack 120

Got mine at Walmart (I know ) for $279 and it came with a 2 piece paddle. So far it tracks very straight and is incredibly stable. The reviews speak for themselves I think. Before I found this I was prepared to spend a lot more on a Perception.

As for a vehicle we put J-racks on my dads Tahoe and just slide it up from the rear. or lift it up from the side. In the future I'm building a rack for my pickup bed.

Lol, the first fish is a in slot redfish that became an awesome dinner.

The second fish was an under slot snook and was released unharmed.

Number 3 was one of many jacks I caught and released.

. I was looking at the 140 but found the 120 used for 700$  didn't feel the need to drop 400$ more for a new 140.  The rover is 73 with overdrive, Perkins diesel

From today.  Armand Bayou outside of Houston.  Caught a handful or blue catfish, saw a bunch of alligators, caught a blue crab, and then one redfish.  Brackish water fishing in strange sometimes.

Ascend D10T (no pix on my phone), but concidering upgrading to a 12fter.   If i had it to do again, i'd go 12ft w/rudder for ease of tracking.

Wife picked up a generic 10ft sit-in so we just go paddling around whenever we have free time.

Just picked one up a couple months back, only been out a few times with the boy, but man I love it!

So much easier than the canoe!

I'm keeping the canoe because it's great if you need to haul some cargo, like camping stuff, but the kayak is the cat's ass for a toss it in the back and hit the nearest water for some fishing or exploring!Attached File

Last summer I rented a number of times at a local-ish shop. Great river paddling.

Looking to buy, but looking to get a Jeep Cherokee first, hopefully before summer. After, I'll totally fo for a kayak. Sit-in type.

Will try to lurk here.

The first is of the wife on the Hatchie. The second is of our Kayaks. We bought them almost a year ago. Last weekend we were on yellow creek (pickwick) Ms.  We had a planned 23 mile paddle on the Hatchie today, have been looking forward to it all week. Then one of my oldest daughter's best friends died in a plane crash with her brother and her parents yesterday. (have a thread about it not trying to hijack ) but cancelling paddle was necessary. The Hatchie is close and we have bee out on it 3-5 times already this year. If it warm and we are off work together... We try and paddle.

But still 40-50 degrees highs in the day time, 30 and less at night.

Still, will be renting again soon. They don't LIKE to rent to those who haven't done their courses (which I will). But I'm a straping young lad, so they let me late last fall.

Strongly considering trading the river canoe for a kayak this year.

I'm finding that the older I get the less time I can spend in a canoe comfortably. Mostly it's my back that acts up from it.

Anyone else who's made the switch notice a difference?

I got the same one a few weeks back. It's not as stable as the 12' Field and Stream I borrowed but it's much lighter and 2 feet shorter. I took it out in some 30 mph winds and big waves

Whatever you, don't get a Pelican brand kayak for fishing. Hull is way too V'eed and makes it real tippy in anything other than flat water. Opt for a flatter wider body for more stability, especially if you are ever going to fish it in the wind

You can build one if you are handy, I am looking into going this route. I'd like to make one similar to the ones that were used where I am from in the not too distant future. You can make a light weight and tough boat for a decent price.

There are tons of other resources on how and why to build.

I've been kayak fishing for just over a year now. I absolutely love it. I go every chance I get. I have a wilderness Systems ATAK 140. The best advice I can give for anyone getting into kayaking is get one with a comfortable seat. If your butt goes numb and back starts hurting after an hour your much less likely to enjoy the sport. Ive been on the water all day before and my back feels great.

The ATAK is an extremely stable kayak that even my fat butt can stand up and fish easily in. Attached File

I went to Armand Bayou today, in between Houston and Galveston.  The alligators were everywhere, probably at least 30 sightings in about 5 hours.  One of them even decided to help himself to a blue cat I caught.  Overall it was a fun day as always while on my kayak.

I have a lifetime tamarack 20 I got from Big 5 for $120. It's okay, but it doesn't track that well, so it's kind of a slow moving yak.

Just bought an Ascent FS12T last month, it's in storage, we still have ice on our lakes, so it won't see use for a couple months.

Will post pics in July.

Ice still?  That sucks, it was kind of cold today, was in the upper 60's this morning but it finally warmed up to mid 80s by lunch time.

You will be happy with the Ascent FS12T, very nice kayak for the money.
