The catchy Subway sandwich shop jingle involving a variety of foot-long sandwiches available for $5 doesn't apply in San Francisco.
The sandwich-making chain stopped selling the five-dollar footlongs in San Francisco due to the "high cost of doing business," according to SF Weekly. Signs posted at Subway sandwich shops sadly inform San Francisco patrons –– we hear Willie Brown is a big fan –– that "all SUBWAY Restaurants in SF County DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN Subway National $5.00 Promotions," according to the newspaper. -snip- Apparently, the city's new minimum wage, raised to $10.24 as of Jan. 1, make $5 footlongs an impossible business model. http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/No-Subway-5-Footlongs-In-SF-Cost-of-Doing-Business-Too-High-144709445.html |

No self-respecting ARFCOMMER would go to San Francisco, anyway. |

12" tuna on cheese bread with spinach, tomatoes, jalapenos and spicy mustard. Thanks.

When the government requires that your employer pays you more, and due to that the companies have to raise their prices, that's called "inflation." Economics 101. Obviously 99% of government officials never got that far. Meh, what does it matter, it's fo da chillins.

Not like those footlongs had any decent amount of deli meat in the first place. You're basically paying $5 for a hoagie roll and a ton of veggies.

Quoted: 12" tuna on cheese bread with spinach, tomatoes, jalapenos and spicy mustard. Thanks. That'll be $17.50, plus the additional SF mandatory health care fee please. |

So the people making minimum wage can't afford to go to Subway anymore. Rich people? They don't eat that shit anyway.
Dunno about Subway, but McDonalds has had higher prices than their national ads in Manhattan since I was a kid.
Man, who could see that coming? Going to need to raise the Min. wage to $20/hr so people can afford to eat damnit!

THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE WHY THE MINIMUM WAGE ARGUMENT MADE BY THE LEFT IS 100% PURE BULLSHIT!!
Shit even in New York City / Manhattan, Subways sell the $5 footlongs.
You'd think the biggest problem with $5 foot longs in Frisco would be making them fast enough... Half the population could probably swallow it in one bite.

Surprised SF didn't outlaw fast food joints first.
Guessing no dolla-make-me-holla menu at McD.

Politicians want to keep raising minimum wage, the company isn’t going to eat the cost… so you do.
All I can say is sucks for LA. |

Lol last year some progressive group was bitching that city McDonald's ditched the $1 menu and the homeless couldn't afford to eat. They wanted some law to be enacted to force price controls on fast food

WA has always had a really high minimum wage but it's only 9.04 an hour

I went to Defense Language Institute for German at the old Marine Hospital on the south edge of the Presidio. One Sat. I was wandering around town and found the SF Gun Exchange. I recall they had more Randal knives than I have ever seen in the rest of my life put together. They also had a small .22 LR Gatling gun in the window. It even had the large drum magazine on it instead of the vertical sticks. They wanted 5K for it. |

Just wait until they layoff everyone who isn't qualified to be a manager.

Damn, that minimum wage is impressive. Right? With my bills as they are right now, I could afford to work at McDonalds full time and stash some money away. Your bills in San Francisco proper would include $1000/mo for a one bedroom apartment. You'd have to work your first 100 sandwich making hours just to pay for the roof over your head. |

The only $5 Subway footlong a guy in San Francisco is interested in is a... wait, does SF even have a subway system?
