Sorry if this has been asked before... Anyone else here not have a cell phone? I'm not saying I'd never own one, but I just can't seem to bring myself to carry around one of those annoying little b@stards! |
|
Switched from a "low low" $70 monthly fee (two phones) for something we didn't use much at all, to a pair of TracFones. Much cheaper in the long run. I buy 240 minutes every three months (200 for my phone, 40 for my wife's phone) which works out to about $25/month. As soon as I'm not working in a phone-less office, I will probably drop down to buying 100 minutes every three months. Jim |

Just curious.....but why are they annoying to yall? I had to get one when I was 15 because I lived in Russia and didn't know the language. So I had it when I was going around the city. Now I have one because it's cheaper to have a cell phone for my boyfriend and I instead of having a landline. |
| Hell no I don't have one of those annoying worthless bastards. I don't have any need to be reachable at all times, and the US cell system is idiotic. I had one in Europe, and Asia, and when consumers here pull their head out and demand the same system I will get one here. In case anybody is unclear how screwed up it is here, every other country in the world (except Canadia and maybe mehico) you can buy whatever phone you want (for the actual cost). There is no fawking monthly bill, you buy a sim card at the gas station or celly store, buy cards with more minutes when you need them, don't pay for incoming calls at all, have no "daytime", nighttime, evenings, etc BS to worry about. The system here with the stupid 2 year contracts with the cost of the phone subsidized in and the ridiculous plans sucks ass. The tracphone crap is a step in the right direction but the minutes are about 10-20X the cost they should be. I made direct overseas long distance calls from Korea to the CONUS for under 10 cents a min, back in 2000. You want to reach me, call my home phone (which will never have a dead battery or be tuned off, or out of range of a tower incidentally) and leave a voice mail if I'm not home. Cell quality still sucks too, I am tired of yelling at my brothers on their POSs and having to strain to hear over the crappy distortion and noise. If I could legally own a cell phone jammer I would build a 500 watt one and mount it in my vehicles just so the idiots around me would have to put the phone down and actually drive for a change. |
|
Absolutely not. I will NOT own one of those fucking electronic leashes. I think they're fucking rude and annoying. I used to have a pager many, many years ago and I got so goddamn sick of people at work who couldn't think for themselves paging me every time I left the plant that one night I threw it against a grocery store wall ( outside ) and I have never had a leash since then. Fuck those evil little bastard cell phones!!!! Sigh.....I feel better....... |
Don't have any friends, let alone people who want to call me. Wife hates them as much as I do. People are so inconsiderate with them, in my experience. And I've got to agree with Chairborne in that nobody offers what I'd want, if I ever decided to get one. |
|
I didn't have one until about 3 months ago. Bought a cheap prepaid and barely use it. Came in handy a couple of months ago when my car got towed in a strange city. If I could get by cheaper on the cell, I would probably go without a land line. But the land line is much much cheaper. |
I fought it for years, even after "everyone" had one. Now that I'm used to it, I feel lost without it. ![]() These days (with a wife and child at home), I wouldn't dream of being away from home without one - even just a few hundred yards away at the range or fishing pond... |
I feel the same way. Most people's argument is" what about an emergency????" I have a radio in my truck used for VFD. If I need help, I'll call dispatch. Besides I ride a bike and have been hit while some dumbass is yaking away on his/her cell. (HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!) |
|
Wife has one...I don't. She keeps it in her car and ONLY takes it with her if I am home with the kids or if my in-laws have the kids. Just in case of an emergency. My sister in law has one permanantly stuck to her head. She'd die is she didn't have one. I hate people who yell on them while in a restaurant, store, or anywhere else I am that there isn't a pay phone. I don't want to hear about your great-aunt's hysterectomy while I am picking out ripe tomatoes....just the same way I don't want to hear about the deatils of the pet grooming incident while I am trying to enjoy our 5th anniversary at a nice restaurant. (true stories) And for God's sake...hang up and drive your fucking car...It's a car not a fucking phone booth. Talking on the phone not only distracts you from the priority at hand...but your left hand holding that fucking electronic tether creates a MAJOR blind spot while you are in control of a 3000# weapon that could harm me or my family. And don't get me started on 10 yr old (and younger) who have their own phones....I could rant for an hour about these things. We use ours for emergencies...not as a way of life. |

Don't have anyone that I want to talk to that much. As RETROSEXUAL, if something comes up; I deal with the shit and not call to whine for help. 9mm is faster than 911. My 2¢, wganz ¶ |
I lost mine about a month or so ago. Can't find it - I've missed a couple of times but not enough to hunt for it or buy a new one. Patty |

No Cell Phone??? My family has two. My in-laws have 4. Amazon is the place to get cell phones: ![]() www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002VIV76/qid=1115055153/sr=8-11/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i10_xgl180/103-0170360-7041423?v=glance&s=wireless&n=507846 After rebate: They pay you $150 to buy the phone and sign up for the plan. That translates to initation fee plus 3 months of free service. Not saying it's a good phone, but Amazon has a ton of deals like that. |

No cell phone here. If I had one the a**holes at work would call me at all hours of the day and night, on my dime. Soon I will have a 2-meter HT for ham radio comm on repeaters. At least once a week I see someone around here run a stop sign while chatting away on their cell. Hang up and drive!! GunLvr |
