Fixed.

Just to clarify that citizens cannot enjoy individual ownership of firearms there.

I know. I was born there

Unfortunately there are only few of those gears to go around and most are just for shows and publicity photos.

During the 1988 Olympics most of the uniformed police officers around the stadium had holsters but no pistol in it Even now very few police officers actually carry handguns... even fewer than UK police.

I love how the Indonesian and South Korean "Police" tags are in English, altho it's not the official language of either country. We rule.

I got halfway down the first pic, hadn't seen any insignia yet, and just knew those guys were South Koreans. Bad ass guys there.

i'm still a little disappointed in the s. koreans. they have not avenged the killing of their citizen.
when i was growing up there in the old days. they would have killed everything and anything related or non-related to the a-holes who beheaded the poor chap. hopefully soon, they will take some action. hope, hope ,hope.
lumpy, you need to talk to them about their use of the eothingy...

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, as I'm grateful those guys have the balls to be over there
but wtf is up with having the stock completely above their shoulders?
I know 5.56 doesn't kick much, but don't you still need a bit firmer of a hold when firing?

no. Not really. Certainly not for urban / short-range work. And that high hold works the lower portion of the buttstock into the natural pocket formed by pec / collarbone, or the pauldron of body armor. It's actually nowhere near as fucked up as it looks.

EDIT - and looking at the pic again, he's really not mounting it that way, anyway, just has the weapon high to aim over something

Clothing, BR vest, web gear, and individual differences in body types force the soldiers to shoulder their weapons like that. The Marines designed the M16A2 as a target rifle with a longer stock, when they should have designed it as a combat assault rifle keeping in mind the above stated reasons for why weapons are shouldered the way they are. Not everybody is 6'2" and wearing just a shirt when they fire the M16.

This is true. I just reminded myself how F'ed up the media is about police using deadly force against criminals. And I know that officers carry some kind of revolvers, with like 2~3 blanks and rest live ammo. I also heard they are only allowed to take them out if they know the criminal they are going against is a violent one...? (not sure about the last one, I saw it in the newspaper so)
