Im debating on going with one of the new Intel chips like a Dualcore E8400 or wait until one like the Q9450 is out, ideas/suggestions. Im tired of my current comp struggling. |
I just plunked down on the E8400...my current system (Opty 175) was good but just not cutting it anymore. Honestly just wanted to upgrade the RAM, but with 2GB of DDR costing me almost twice as much as 4GB of DDR2 (mobo only takes DDR), it seems time to upgrade. As for the Quad? If you're doing stuff like audio/video creation, using programs and codecs that have been optimized for multicore procs, it's worth the wait. If it's for general computing or gaming, take the 180 extra you'd spend on the Quad, get the Dual, and put it towards a smoking vidcard. Most games right now can't really even handle dual core all that well, so 2 used at 3.0ghz sounds better than 2 used at 2.66 if you're looking for speed. And if you're nuts, people have been getting the E8400 up to 4ghz on air cooling alone. |
