Well I just got the goods on the changes at our local Academy...

NO MORE  Block taught lessons, where people could drop out at the end of a lesson and return at a later date and continue.

Complete class from start to finish.
Both day and evening classes will be five days a week.....
Duty belts will be worn from day one with required uniform
Blue guns from day one till you qualify with a duty weapon...

This is what happens when the Chief instructor quits and is replaced..

Ya! +1

You didn't have these "Pay to get certified" Kmart academies back then either.  I'm for agency/State run academies... Those others seem to pump out alot of chaff!

I don't see the issue. You should not be able to miss many classes...too much material to make up. carrying the blue gun gets the recruit used to having a sidearm.

I'm glad to hear about the changes!!!     I did'nt like the old set-up of come and go,,  very counter productive...  What I really like is now that it will be a five day schedule it will go alot faster and SMOOTHER!

Make them wear body armor every time their duty belt is on as well.  Also don't let them have a blue/red gun until they successfully complete the weapons retention class.  Make them earn it.

Sounds like a typical academy in NJ.

Completing the class from start to finish is a good thing.  In my academy you can miss a day, but you have to repeat the entire block in the next academy.  I understand why they want to keep it that way, however if you have court you should be excused unless it is on a test day.
