The easy way is to go to Cosco/Sams Club and get thier fleet buyer's cost. If you're willing to roll up your sleaves, pick the right time, work the dealers against each other, sell the trade-in rather than give it to the dealer, bring your own finance, and work the tatics against the dealer you can some times beat the fleet dealer.
I lucked upon a deal on the first CR-V sold in Riverside county from a retired Navy chaplain who was a fleet dealer for a Honda dealer about 40 miles away. He beat the price I had worked on for three weeks across six dealers by 500 dollars. I was on my way to buy the truck when my chaplain asked me what car I was buying and hooked me up with this other guy. Sweet.
PS: If you're willing to buy a 2005 off the lot the next seven days are as prime shopping as possible on last year's models.
