There are a number of such hard-kill APSs in existance, and the article is wrong in a couple of respects. Trophy is simply the first to enter widescale service in the West. The first such APS to enter service was Drozd, fitted to a small number of Soviet tanks in the 1970s and 1980s. Arena was the follow-on to that, which has been available on Russian tanks for the last few years. The latest Russian generation is Zaslon. Israel also has a second system, called Iron Fist, designed for lighter vehicles and which works under a slightly different principle. The German system is called AWiSS.

There have been some demands for US vehicles to be fitted with Trophy, but the Powers-that-Are are waiting for Raytheon's version(Quick Kill) to finish development.

We could be saving lives but unfortunatly the "not invented here" syndrome rears it's ugly and costly head yet again.....
