I'm looking to upgrade my network at my house. I've previously wired several of the rooms, but am adding a 8 camera POE IP system that I'm going to have to run Cat5e for. I'm thinking that while I'm in the attic, I should just wire the remaining rooms in my house. All in all, this will probably mean about 16 drops into the room I'm going to use as my control area.
My question is this. What would be the best way to organize all these lines? Would you recommend just running the lines down the wall and into a rackmount cabinet with a patch panel or do some type of in-wall patch panel? I'd like to keep it neat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
| I've never been a fan of in-wall patches, no matter how well you do it a run will have to be replaced eventually. Though one could argue that in-wall is a better value for the house. I'm also a big fan of two drops per location. So if you need 1, run 2, if you need 2, run 4. Spares and growth should be considered. |
