Over the past two days, I will be surfing the web and all of a sudden the computer will lock up for up to 2 minutes. It seems to happen ever 5 minutes or so. I CTR ALT DEL to check the applications and CPU usage. When this is happening, netscape.exe is sucking up 99% of the CPU. I have been using Netscape for several months this has just started happening. Any idea what is going on. BTW...while typing this, it locked up again.

I remember using Netscape Navigator... Dude... Firefox. Seriously. |
I used to use firefox but it sucked ass. Everything loaded soooooo slowly. It drove me nuts. It was much slower than IE and netscape. I wish I could go back to IE 6. 7 seems to be a resource hog. Netscape seems to suck up the resources but only in spikes.

I found the problem (in red). In all seriousness have you tried to run adaware/spybot S&D and a virus scan? |
|
Sounds like your computer is either: (a) outdated for the purpose at hand - low memory, old processor? (b) loaded with spy ware/ad-aware (c) infected with viruses OR (d) any combination of the above Of course, having Netscape doesn't really help either; Firefox is the way man...especially version 2 - with the built in spell checking

Agreed that one of the older versions of Firefox used to suck up memory. The problem seems to be fixed in Firefox 2. You might want to give it another shot. I used to use Netscape back in the late 90's and loved it. Then it started acting up, and I became convinced that MS was adding things to their OS to purposely sabotage Netscape. True or not, IE began working much better than Navigator, so I used IE until I discovered Firefox. |
Computer is a year old. Plenty of memory left. I checked for spyware and ad-ware, a few hits, but nothing major. No virii. My protection is up to date. I checked on the netscape.exe and it seems it is a part of netscape nav and isn't malicious.

Opera is good on machines with limited amount of ram. |
