| Are there any good deals out there on just a basic computer? $500-$800 range. Newegg has a Y460 whatever Lenovo for $699. Looks good but has a $100 add-on for Windows 7 pro or something that doesn't make sense. Any suggestions? |

How basic is "basic"? Size requirements? (i.e. is anyone actually going to be carrying is anywhere?)
You can buy basic laptops for ~$400 all day long. IMO, just make sure you get something with Win 7 home premium (or better) and try to get a dual-core processor. |

If you need one now, hit Walmart as others have said.
Acer Timelines are pretty sweet for the money and they have a ton of other great brands/deals too. I actually found better laptops at the local wallyworld than I got from Newegg... Otherwise though, newegg FTW. My present laptop was almost $500 in tiger direct, with more expensive shipping. I got it for under $400 at newegg. |

This looks like the best deal. Can you use two coupons at once or just order separately? Costco has some good coupon on the Acer something.....looks good and has the Costco 2 year warranty whatever that means. Just need them in a few days. My Toshiba Tecra A-6 doesn't want to come on lately and I figure that's some kind of death gurgle. |

Walmart Acer aspire 5534 model nal 10 win 7 duo core 250 hd 4 g ram 16:9 $348 Limited offer. Not advertised or even displayed. You have to ask for it. They have them locked under the laptop display counter. I just got this exact laptop. My GF bought it for me as an early (only) Christmas gift. One of the local Wal-Marts got 300 of these in stock, and mine was the 299th one sold. Local computer people are buying them at this price 5 and 6 at a time, so you better hurry. And yes, it is a good system, I love it. Steve |

http://www.salescircular.com Best place to look if you're wanting something in stock at a local store. If you're willing to shop online, there are tons of options. |
Intel vs AMD is a personal thing. I've been in IT 8 years and only buy Intel. I can't stand AMD and there is no explanation, I just hate their chips . If you can find a good deal on a Lenovo I'd grab it. They just work. I'm on a Lenovo S-10 netbook now. Paid 350 for it and love it. I basically surf the net and read email on it. If I need to do any type of work on a computer I use the desktop machine.

Consider a refurbished laptop from an online vendor.
If you didn't need it so quickly, I'd say save your money. $100 can be the difference between a fast board-memory-processor-graphics combination, or an unbalanced/outdated system, especially with Black Friday coming. Case in point, Athlon X2s suck compared to Turion X2s or Core 2 Duos. |
