Can someone tell me the secret to getting the muzzle attachment off?  Been messing with this thing for 45 minutes and can't figure it out.

Left hand thread.

-or-

During the ban years, many were attached permanently.  Try using a torch.

What kind of FAL? What kind of muzzle attachement?

A picture would help a lot.

Keep in mind that a lot of FALs were built here with permanently attached brakes to be US-legal.

My understanding is that it should just twist off.  Could be stuck on with cosmoline, in which case you can try melting it out.  Constant 150-degree heat usually works well on cosmo.

There is a metal spring that goes around the muzzle attachment. Pop it free and you see that there should be a seam. That seam is a hinged panel that will open. When it is opened you should just twist the muzzle attachment and it will come off.

I don't have a G1 handy (mine's at the gunsmith being refinished) or I would post a picture.

Got it, thanks. The other 5 attachments went on and came off real easy, just that one was a bugger.
