I’m trying to reformat the HD of my Compaq. When I try and do it through DOS it gives me “Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)” I hit “Y” and it says “Cannot lock the drive. The volume is still in use.” That’s as far as it goes. ![]() I have also tried right clicking on the “C” drive while in My Computer and clicking Format. It gives me a “Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again Nothing seems to work…I’ve never encountered this problem. Any advice? |

Most computers don't come with a COPY of windows now. Probably have a restore partition somewhere. Not compaq literate.<G> Read the manual. Dennis Jenkins
