ok, i'm running windows xp on my laptop, which i never lend out to anyone.  anyways, one of my buddies was screwing around with it, looking through my music files and crap like that, and he had a bright idea to "lock" my computer doing the Ctrl+Alt+Delete thing.  i've never turned that on, because i have no use for it, but he wants to have some fun with me.  long story short, he locked my computer, and now i can't get into the damn thing, because i don't know what the password is.  is there any way i can get around this?

If you were logged in as administrator and he jumped in and changed your password you're in for some major pain.

I'd just kick his ass and just before I choked the last breath from his body I would ask him for the password.

Sounds like he enabled a password for the useraccount you always used.

You can hard boot it so it restarts but I think you'll find you'll still need a password to get in.

I'd be f'in pissed if he ends up locking you out.

That is why you have a few accounts so if one gets messed up then you can go and fix it. Ask him for the password. Ha Ha!

yeah, i never set up a password for it, and he says he doesn't know what the password is.  so, am i just SOL, or anyone know anything i can do?  the reboot doesn't help either, it comes up to a login screen...

This is why you need to use your own account with admin rights and hard to guess password, and whenever you have the urge to lend your computer with very important documents, you let the user login with a Guest account where he has NO Admin rights and CANNOT screw up your computer. Read the help files on how to do this whenever you can login again.

Need to reset the admin password? No problem. Do you have another computer you can make a bootable CD on? Do you mind messing(very little) with the registry? Let me know and I will see if I can find that old link I used to have...

Did your "buddy" actually enter ANY password for the account?
If he didn't, all you have to do is press Enter because it is a BLANK password.
Try it. See what happens.

Btw, I'd drop that "buddy" like a sack of rocks if I were you.
What if you need your laptop for work?

Might I suggest taking a computer class?? Nothing wrong with asking here, but it might help you later.

Don't waste your money on a class. That would be too expensive.
Sorry, DOA.

Read the book.
