I have a apple macbook with superdrive. I bought toast for burning dvds but it is not working. I tried everything. I reinstalled toast and the OS. I tried different brand disks. It just won't stop crashing my machine.
HOW DO I BURN MOVIES WITH THE SYSTEM BURN PROGRAM. I made a burn folder but it won't burn. I tried DVD-r,DVD+rw and CD-R. It says "please put in a blank disc. OR WHAT FREE DVD BURN PROGRAMS ARE THERE FOR APPLES? Thanks for any input.

I was about to make a rude joke about mac's, but since I don't have any real suggestions then I'll give you a shameless bump back to the top...

Check to make sure you have the latest update for Toast on the toast manufacturer website. Since you have the latest Macbook, your OS version 10.4.x may be newer than the version of Toast you bought.

Thanks. I should have just bought a thinkpad. I have to use the windows XP side of the mac to burn dvds. It can't be a drive problem if it works on the windows side.

I have tried the newest version. Maybe I will try again since I reinstalled the OS.

You should check out the Apple suport forums. There are alot of people that are having problems with the superdrive.

Just select Macbook and then the Optical drive forum. You might try contacting your nearest apple store. Depending on the age of the laptop they just might give you new one.

In regards to free programs for burning DVD's. I would recommend Mac The Ripper.

Mac the Ripper

When I put in the blank disk the computer says this is not a blank disk. I just bought 3 types of brand new disks. they are blank. The windows side will burn the files in about 3 minutes. the mac side when using toast take hours and hours then crashes everytime right at the end.

I will try mac the ripper. Thanks.

Give me a Mac over a PC, even a ThinkPad, any day. I've had both.

Mac the Ripper only rips DVD's. It doesn't compress or burn them. For that, I recommend Popcorn. I have used this combination many times with excellent results. It takes forever, but it works.

I'm not sure why OSX would be having the difficulties described. Granted, I have a PB G4, not a MB. So far, the only thing I see in common is Toast, which I have never had to use to burn music or data DVD's or CD's. I've just used the burner in the OS.

This is just a guess, but if it's written for PowerPC and it's not a Universal Binary then it probably won't work on an Intel mac.  Programs that interact with the hardware like that don't run well under Rosetta I think.  Check the system requirements and see what it says.

How do I use the system burner? When I tried to make a burn folder and place small videos inside it would not burn. It kept saying put in a blank disk. I said "all the f@#$ing disks I just tried are blank". I tried burning to cd with a very small file. Nope. No luck.
