Well, the g/f and I have been planning to move from South Florida, to western Colorado, namely Grand Junction.  All was going fine and smooth until the elections and more recently.  I know the Californication of Colorado was in effect, but  I guess I was sligtly ignorant to how bad.

New AWB in Colorado

I really have my heart set on CO because It really has alot of the things I like, plus great weather, lots of sunshine, low humidity, and great people.

Now, since my guns are a part of me, and one of the reason I left family and much more in NY, I again find myself re-evaluating my move.

Now we are at a point where she has quit her job, and our moving plans are like 3 weeks away from being put in motion, and here I am starting to look at other possibilities.  I started looking into Hew Hampshire, just out of curiosity, and from seeing the Free State Project

I'm also open to any other suggestions, but my criteria are quite demanding.

1.  Decent weather
2.  Ability to buy land (50-100) acres, affordably(<$400K)
3.  Great gun laws.
4.  Ability to ski, mountain bike, dirt bike, shoot, etc...

I know much of this seems vague, but I'm really at a point where I'm fed up down here, and want to move to a smaller, simpler, life.  I really have nobody to talk to since they all think I'm crazy.

What would you do?

I think this is something you will have to figure out yourself. There are so many variances in choosing a place to live we could not give you an idea of where YOU would like to live.

I recently moved to Arizona from Florida.  I think AZ meets all of your criteria.  Also, it is a lot less crowded out here than it was in the Tampa Bay area.  I'm in the Tucson area, Phoenix would be a different story.

Good luck.

Yeah, I'm in SE Broward County.  Hallandale Beach to be exact.

I've heard that the illegal immigration problems in AZ are at epic proportions; one of the reasons why I want to leave south Floirda.  Something like 60% of the population down here are foreign born.

Illegal immigration is a big problem in Arizona, that's why I moved here.  If it weren't for IA's, I'd have to find another job.

Depending on what you do for a living and where you live, they may have a huge impact on you (ie. hiding in / running through your back yard, stealing your stuff, etc.) or it may not affect you that much.  It's a problem everywhere but you're right, it's a bigger problem in the southern tier states that share a land border with Mexico.

Have you thought about Vermont?

I currently live behind the lines in NY and am considering moving just over the VT border. Lots of hippies, but at least they respect gun rights.

The commute to the tri-city area of upstate NY is 'only' about an hour which opens up job opportunities.

Outdoors wise, you would have 6M acres in the Adirondack park just to your west and kick ass skiing all around.

Just something to think about.

He may not consider 110-115 from May-Sept "decent weather".

Yeah, but it's a dry heat.  ETA, except last summer, when it seemed to rain here more than back in FL (still way more comfortable IMO).

SOUTH DAKOTA

Northern PA would fit your requirements.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I think I'm going to stick to the game plan, and if they ever do pass a AWB, I can flee to Utah I guess.  My g/f started freaking out when I told her that me might have to reconsider Colorado.

Utah fits your bill perfectly

I would go with South Dakota, no state income tax.  Colorado has way to many people for me.
