The place I've been with for 13 years is about is about to go belly up or something, they'll only let me renew for 5 months. They've been good and they've been cheap while the party lasted but it looks like it's over.

All I do with it is have it for email addresses at my domain name, host pictures and a few files there, I don't even really have a web site up though my wife's decided she wants to do her blog on it instead of Blogspot now.

Cheap is the operative word here. Anyone have one that they would recommend?

Define cheap? I've used 1and1 for about 10 years.

I wish. I live out in the country. My only internet is satellite or Cricket at 8 Mbps which I just went to as it's unlimited.

I've looked at them earlier today. Cheaper than that.

Ipage charges me $72/year.  They'll give you the first year almost free.  My websites don't see a lot of traffic.

My wife had her little web site with Godaddy. I learned to hate them.

Fuck them.  They host spammers, ignore complaints, and generally have shitty service.

Amazon Web Services has a "Free Tier" that will let you use one of their Linux or Windows t2.micro images (basically a publicly-accessible virtual machine) for a year, to do with what you will.  Once the year runs out, there's a minimal charge for it (unless you cancel)... if I remember correctly mine is a little under $5/mo.  If you're truly interested in setting up your own web server, this may be a way to get your foot in the door and pick up a few cloud skills at the same time.  Your 8 Mb connection would be plenty for configuring and administering the instance.

I run my website off wordpress, my godaddy forwards to it for free.

I forget what I did, but I think they tried to charge me to point my domain at wordpress... but after clicking around for a while it seems there is an option to have your domain just forward to any site... obviously I'll take free fiddy.

I use weebly.  It is very easy to set up.

They have a free option but it includes a sub-domain.  The paid options are not that much, you get more tools and don't include a sub-domain.
