Who do you call to service your natural gas lines? I've got a fireplace that ought to be running natural gas logs but the guy who owned the house before me burned logs in it. The cap for the natural gas outlet that I could hook to the gas fireplace logs is tight - really tight - plumber's wrench and a cheater bar tight. I'm afraid that if I torque the thing any harder that I'll rip the pipe apart or at least start unscrewing it from the valve. I'd even concider paying someone to fix if but who - plumbers? |
Why the hell would you call a plumber to do the job you can do yourself? Just go to your meter and turn off the valve, then take the two Rigid pipe wrentches an then if you can't do it just give up! And if you do get it loose use pipe dope! Bob |
Here in Orygun it has been years since the gas company did any plumbing/installation. You have to call a plumber. Sure, it seems like they would do it to sell more gas; but they don't and I don't know for sure what their reasoning was in quitting the install stuff. NMSight |

As stated above. Do it yourself. You just need to turn off your main valve first. Usually at your meter. Two pipe wrenches and some pipe thread dope is all you need. Don't forget to soap bubble check your joints after turning on the gas. Liquid dishwashing soap works fine. Like Dawn or Pamolive. Also when done. go relite your water heater pilot and stove/oven pilots and furnace pilot when done with the fireplace job. If you have a newer furnace without a free standing pilot. One that has direct ignition. And you have the gas off while the thermostat is calling for heat. The furnace will go into lockout with the gas off and trying to come on three times. Just turn the power off to the furnace for about thirty seconds and turn back on. This resets the ignition control module for the furnace. Or you can call a A/C-Heating company, Plumber, Gas Company, or a Fireplace Company. |
