I was thinking of getting one for a nice little pistol to get the dogs away from my humvee. I just want to know does is this a a good little gun? I'm going to get it in 22LR but I want to know if you can use 22 short in this? Thanks for the help.

How are you going to use it to get the dogs away?

If you mean in shooting them, they had better not be bad dogs!!!  Or you will indeed make them madd bad dogs!!!

Not that if that was what you would be asking, yes a .22lr will kill a dog,but you will be ate up before you ever hit him where it will count with that little pea-shooter!!

It will be used to dispatch dogs from 10 feet from my Humvee in Iraq. We had a lot of problems out there with the dogs giving away where we where at and all the guns we has where a little to loud to take care of the job.

I'd say get a real .22  i have an NAA in 22 mag and I'd have a hard time hitting a dog at 10 feet with it.  I've actually tried hitting an 8 inch rock at about 6 feet and missed.  I like my NAA but I think its real use is for making someone back up when they're right on top of you (lacking a proper sidearm of course).
What about one of those Walther 22 autos?  They seem small and light enough for a pocket and they have real sights too!  Saw one with a supressor on it this weekend.  Nice and quiet but bigger than a pocket then.

I have one in .22LR and its a hoot to shoot. I love giving it to new shooters at the end of a range session, just to lighten things up (jumped out of a firend's hand once ). Has the look of that tiny pistol from the movie "Men In Black". Can't hit anything much smaller than a human torso past 10ft due to its tiny size and piss-poor sights, so it may not be a good choice for your anti-dog application. I'd recommend a Ruger Mk2 or similar with a silencer (I assume there are no BATF issues in Iraq).

The NAA .22s are pretty damn loud for a rimfire. I'd get a cheap .22 auto carbine.

I've got one of the Black Widow .22 WMR and as was mentioned it's a hoot. A .22 magnum out of a 1" and change barrel is a real blast - but this is a belt buckle gun - you grab the guy by the belt buckle with one hand and shoot him with this gun in the other hand.

I'd still rather see you with a .38 or .357 and some snake shot.

Me and brother have matching NAA .22s and I would not suggest them for your intended purpose.  Hitting something at 10 ft is a gamble and if you even hit it, I doubt it would do much damage.  Also, they are loud as crap.

You'd be better served with a larger sized .22.  A short barreled Browning Challenger or Ruger .22/45 would be much better.  Use the heavy Aguiar ammo and you have a somewhat quiet dog killer.

The problem is getting it to and from Iraq I need it to be small enough to get there and back!! I really want it so it can shoot CB shorts  thats why I dont go for an auto.

get a smith and wesson 2214 , they are pretty small and accurate.

What a price $375!!! Do they shoot short rounds do you know?

So would I but they are loud and hard to get in to the country or I would just buy a 45ACP and that would be the end of that.

If you want to shot .22 shorts, why not get a regular sized .22 revolver? It would be more accurate for the ranges that you are shoting at. I'm dubious about there effectiveness against dogs though. A friend of had to put down a rhea (like a small ostrich) on the outskirts of city limits so he used a 10/22 with .22 CBs, it took several shots in the head at point blank range.

I don't know the legallity of this, but what about getting a threaded Ruger 22/45 and making a suppressor for it in Iraq? A .22LR suppressor is about as simple as it gets.

To tell you all the truth I can't even take any personal weapon to Iraq. So I need to keep this weapon on the down low.

Thats a bummer. Here is what I was talking about link
Take a look at the green threaded one.

It would be easy to separate the receiver (basically the barrel) and the other components and ship separately. Most people would just think that they are parts

As for some other ideas, what about a high power airgun? Many are just as lethal as a .22

Or maybe a paintball gun, especially if you can get the pepperballs.

I have a blackwidow 22lr version and mine is quite accurate for the sights and barrel it has. Unless your gonna shoot subsonics out of it be advised it is loud.

i would personally get the NAA Magnum Combo gun, with a 22mag and 22lr cylinders. the magnum gun is a bit larger and gives you a bit more to hold onto when firing, and you have the option for more power in 22mag, like the on in Pauls pic.

NAA has a website NAAminis.com (i think) and they have a forum where you can ask Qs, but im sure they will handle the 22shorts and CB caps with no problem.

the NAA has a middle notch (between chambers) setting for the hammer which is the safety, just cock n fire.
the guns ive heard a bit frangile, so not sure how well they would hold up for hard charging desert duty. if the internals break then it has to go back to the factory, DONT try openning it because the parts are soooo small you would need tweezers.

why not just get a sling shot or bb gun for dogs? i guess all your looking for is to not kill or wound them but just give them a good smack to chase them away. with a bb gun or sling shot its cheap and if it gets taken away shouldnt be as big a deal.

I vote for the BB gun idea, in your off time at base camp you off some tin cans to pass the time. Ammo is cheap and you can carry lots of it. Also very quiet.

man, I hope you arent planning on trying to sneak this thing over hidden in something.

I think you would be better off to scrounge up a solution in-country. I saw some guys with a K-bar tied to the end of a long stick for this same application. Probably not particularly efficient but, i would imagine it provided for some amusement.

Can't you get a silenced 9mm or .45ACP, like a "hush puppy"?  Seems there ought to be some way to requisition a pistol like that.

If you're thinking of stashing it in your gear I'd be careful. It's a long story, but due to somebody's fuck-up at CRC we ended up getting locked down and having everything searched (full dump) for an unauthorized weapon a few days before we shipped out. My best reccomendation? A good slingshot-laugh if you want, but I know a guy toting one for similar purposes and it works great!

One of those little blow guns would work wonders as well.  You can hit a telephone book all day long with one from 20 feet.  Those little darts are nasty and will make the dog think twice about hanging around.

I think I'm going to go with the sling shoot its not worth getting MJP for and loseing rank. Now if I know I could get a Glock 21 with a few hi-cap mags that would be another story.

I was going to suggest a slingshot, too.  Get a bag of marbles to take along for ammo; looks innocent.  Try doubling up the elastic bands for more punch.  In Iraq, you might be able to get some surgical rubber hose to make a custom rig.
