Has anybody been charged a NICS fee when buying a firearm?  Isn't it supposed to be free?  (Aside from whatever the dealer charges for a transfer fee?)  Thanks.

Yeah, here in GA I was charged $5 before I got my carry permit.

They charge $5 here, $5 if you fail it too,

No NCIS with CCW here and CCW is $15 for 5 years, but a gun a tear and it saves you money.

Is this a bogus charge?  Doe the FBI charge the FFL?  I've never had to pay one but maybe it's included in the transfer fee?

As an aside:
Actually, when I got mine in Augusta, it was $24 to the GBI and $15 to the county.  Those folks down town in the probate court are quite nice and even expedited my application when I told them I would be leaving the area soon due to orders.

They filled out mine too.  They are nice about it, but even after the $24 GBI charge I have still saved money by not having NCIS calls.

Is that all just for the NICS fee or is it the transfer fee?

Thats the check and transfer form an FFL.

So, I'm guessing that the Feds don't charge a fee then?

It's the fee that the CA Department of Justice charges firearms dealers for processing Dealer’s Record of Sale (DROS) documents.  The dealer then passes it on to the buyer.
