Doesn't make sense....There is no Union...they de-certified. How can you lock out that which does not exist....? "The union's abandonment of bargaining has forced the clubs to take action they very much wanted to avoid. At the recommendation of the Management Council Executive Committee under the authority it has been delegated by the clubs, the league has informed the union that it is taking the difficult but necessary step of exercising its right under federal labor law to impose a lockout of the union," said the statement.

I don't give a shit about either side, they're all over paid. Debatable.. It's a few thousand people splitting $9 billion, it's hard to come out of it without making over a million a year on average. Well then they should be thankful to be able to make up to a million dollars a year for playing a game. |

I'm hoping those morons never settle. I won't miss watching a bunch of overpaid whiners strutting their "gorillas in the treetops" routines, crotch grabbing and chest thumping antics one bit! ![]() Agreed! Overpaid assholes playing kids games. Greedy wothless ass owners like Jerry Jones. |

Most players are not super stars; some are and yes, they make big money. But the owners make piles of money off PSAs, concessions, etc. and they don't even have to pay for the construction of the stadium in most cases. The players are basically saying, "If you (owners) aren't making any money, show us your books and we'll work this out." The owners are saying, "Fuck that, we ain't showing you shit."
I'm with the players on this; most of these guys make good money, but not all earn in the millions and they're wearing themselves out on the field. I think they deserve to be taken better care of. Why the fuck do baseball players get paid so fucking much? It's hardly as physical as football, even if they play a billion games a season. |

I don't give a shit about either side, they're all over paid. I agree. Screw professional sports. There is nothing "professional" about it anymore. Yup. They make more in one season than most of us make in a lifetime, and cry like a bunch of little girls because they greedily want more. Fuck 'em !!! Who the hell really needs 'em anyway ?? |

The union dropped out the last time this went around and jumped straight back in after it was resolved,
what this allows the players to do is seek legal alternatives which the likes of Manning, Brady and several others have already persued. This will not end well for any of them as has been said many times over and the union knows it. To force the owners to let them play by a legal order after a lock out will also mean the owners will have more power over the players than at present. Personally I don't think Payton Manning has another super bowl in him but can understand the anxiety that the next one is scheduled to be played at Lucas oil Stadium with or without him. If he goes on point and the season is lost then let him be the scapegoat, life will go on without the NFL and their players union... |

There is a lot of class envy in this thread.
You hate them... because they make too much money....
Never understood how one can care so little, they feel the need to let EVERYONE know how much they don't care. They are private contract, entertainers, they earn every penny someone feels the need to pay them. I see both sides in this... Players will cave before the owners do.. |

I don't care how much money either sides makes. I really don't care for football. I think it is funny that none of them have enlightened self-interest. |
| At some point, I expect either all NFL games, or at least the Super Bowl, to be Pay Per View. The players can demand as much money as they want, its a business, but the owners are in it to make money also. Mark my words- Pay Per View Super Bowl. And...that's when the whole thing unravels. |

I love NFL threads on arfcom, we'll get several pages of: People that don't care, posting to let each other know they don't care. People that cheer a free market, talking about how players are overpaid for what they do. The part of the CoC that deals with race will be scraped so many times it'll need a new paint job. |

32 billionaire owners fighting with 1696 millionaire players over how to divvy up over $8,000,000,000 in total revenues. It's retarded, but IMO the owners are more to blame than the players this time. If this goes to court and the owners are forced to open their books (the one thing they absolutely refused to do), it will go badly for them. I suspect that the owners are as profitable as ever, if not more profitable than ever, and that their cries of poverty will fall on deaf ears. |

Quoted: i'll never understand how something like price gouging doesn't exist, but ball players entering into private contracts are 'overpaid' Because GD is full of hypocrisy. Should grown men get paid millions of dollars to play a children's game? It seems to me that the laws of supply and demand are in effect here just as they are when it comes to everything else...but again, GD's hypocrisy knows no bounds. |

you guys are totally missing whats going on here. the owners want to go to an 18 game season. but thats not all. what they want to do is protect their monopoly. they are trying to kill the UFL. guess who plays in the UFL? the dudes who don't make it in the NFL. so who do you think the owners are going to hire as scabs? the UFL players. then who the fuck will the UFL get? nobody. can't have a league without players. |
