As there are many people here on earth who survive with little or no brains, I see no reason why a chicken can't do the same. Eat more beef.

The question is, did the head survive?

Yes he was real. When his head was cut off, the bottom part of his brain was not severed(the part that controls almost everything in the chicken) The chicken lived for several years being fed by hand and finally died when his breathing tube fulled with mucos(sp) There was a documentary on circus freaks and sideshows a little while back, and they did a whole 20min on the chicken. Good luck Sherm! FWIW I see no reason to think it's a phony. It appears that the chicken only lost it's face and beak, so that is not as strange as some of the things I've seen in nature.

Haven't you ever heard anyone saying "I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off?"

my dad told me about when he was a kid how he would race dead chickens with his grandfather... Sunday dinner in the summer on a farm was invariably some sort of chicken, and being on a farm, my great-grandfather always butchered his own meat. Whenever my dad's family was out there, two chickens would have to be killed (7 people). What my dad and great grandfather would do is take a chicken, each grab an axe, and cut the heads off at the same time. They would rush to set the headless chickens down and whichever one ran the farthest won. ...i bet that was at least slightly entertaining to watch.

Yes he was real. In fact if he was alive today he could probably get elected to the senate from NY. "Just six weeks after his beheading, Mike was featured in a Life magazine article and his fame grew. For just 25 cents, anyone could pay to get a look at Mike. At the height of his popularity, Mike was raking in a cool $4,500 per month, which was no small potatoes in those days. They probably would have thrown in his head as a bonus - it was stored in a canning jar and toured along with Mike. (Actually, a cat ate Mike’s head. Some other poor chicken’s head was pickled in the jar.)" http://home.nycap.rr.com/useless/headless_chicken/

Actually I'm surprised there aren't any "I'd hit it" comments.
