Who's got that picture of that frickin' HUGE bear that guy shot?

The one where he's kneeling next to it and the head is as big as his whole torso.

After numerous grizzly bear attacks the National Park Service is issuing
the following warning to all campers/hikers entering the parks.

All hikers should wear small bells on their clothing or backpacks so
that they do not startle bears while on the trails.  Some bears are more
afraid of humans than the humans are of them, and will move on when they hear
bells approaching.

Hikers should carry pepper spray and be prepared to use it if a bear
should attack.

Hikers should be able to differentiate between brown bear scat and
grizzly bear scat.  Brown bear scat usually contains berries or berry seeds,
and bits of fur from small animals.  Grizzly scat contains small bells and
smells like pepper.

I too have a desire, & a dream to kill a big brownie. I brought home a book from the Anchorage Wal-Mart when I was there fishing last Sept. It is "Track of the Kodiak" by Marvin H. Clark, Jr. it is really a good book. I saw several others at Wal-Mart, but didn't want to get carried away. I looked on the Wal-Mart site when I got back, & I believe that you can order the books through your local Wal-Mart, via the titles listed at the Anchorage Wal-Mart.
I've walked in the wilderness of Alaska, & have seen the tracks where a big Griz passed by. It is really an eye opener to know your in "his" territory.[shock] When I found the tracks I was in a large river valley, & my rifle was in the 6 wheel drive coot about a mile away coming up from the rear. When I showed the tracks to my dad he was angered with me for getting so far ahead without having my weapon with me. I learned the easy way that day!

Question:

How in the hell do you get that big son of a bitch out of the woods?

You skin it where it lays, & leave the carcass for scavengers.[:D] You not required by law to keep the meat of bears in Alaska. At least that is what I have found in the past.

I hear that on Kodial Island the big ones will come to the sound of a shot, like a dinner bell, expecting they can run you off and have a nice meal.

You are not allowed to shoot one to protect your kill.

At least that's the story.

I lived on Kodiak for years, and I heard that one several times when I was there. Never happened to me, though.  Although once when I was picking salmon berries, I looked up and there was a HUGE brownie on the other side of the thicket! I gasped, and we BOTH took off in opposite directions.

When this first surfaced, I searched around and found the real first hand account.  Seems a couple of USAF troops on a hunting party shot this brownie the with a .308 WinMag and a .338 WinMag.  If I remember correctly, it took three shots, two in the torso and one up the nose to finally put Yogi down.

Big damn bear...
