Odd, I run ZoneAlarm personal firewall and have never been port scanned while in the chatroom. I'm not there often but I suppose that it would make for a target rich place for a anti-gun hacker to do some hackivism. I assume that your IP address can be obtained while you're in the chatroom giving the hacker a target address.

There's no reason I can think of for the chat server to have to telnet your computer.

Someone mentioned a similar item a week ago and I performed a number of checks on the server.

1) Port Scan
- Wanted to see any open ports on the server to see if there was anything sending out network traffic

2) Checked Patches/Security Updates
- All files on the server were up to date

3) Virus scanning
- Scanned the server with Norton, McAfee (hate it!), and a few specific scanners just to be safe, nothing came up

4) Software updates
- I updated the software being used on the server which is VERY limited


If you can get me a sample of your firewall log to show me what ports and type of traffic you're getting I can hit it again. The only thing I can think of is the constant validation and protection software running IN the chat itself (once you're connected). It's setup with anti-spoofing as well as a number of security agents there to maintain security in the chat server.

Again, everything I did was preventive as nothing was found on that server, which does not get much use.

   Check your email.  I also get hit with a Telnet request when I connect to the server.
