Okay.  Here's the deal.  I just got back from Chile on a 2 year mission for my church.  At the time  I left I remember it was sooooo easy to download music off the net for free.  Well after 2 years it looks like all that easyness went away.  I've heard of stories where normal, everyday people are getting prosecuted for downloading music.  I really want to get music off the net (free if possible), but the problem is that the owner of our computer (my uncle), won't let me download any music from anywhere untill he is asured that it's legal, or at least that it's safe and we won't get legaly worked over like other people have been recently.  So here's my question.  What is the safest way to get music now days?

All it says about being legal is "It's legal" and nothing else.  Why is this legal and others aren't?

From what I'm reading on the internet it looks like music sites that make you pay for each song downloaded are legal and the rest are not.  Is this right?

I don't know of any criminal offence in filesharing. You have a very small chance of being sued in civil court, but I wouldn't worry about the feds kicking in your door.
