So, my boss has asked me to find some multitools or tools of some sort that we can issue to our field technicians.  Basically something with screwdrivers and other useful tools that our technicians can carry around in their pockets or on their keychains.  Since our technicians work is schools, this rules out getting them something like my Gerber, which has a knife on it.  Is there anything similar out there that just doesn't have a knife on it?

Just do it anyway.  Say it is a wire cutter.  A pair of scissors can be used as a knife.  Why all of this zero tolerance bullshit?  I highly doubt a tech is going to stab a kid.

I just bought a Leatherman Blast and its pretty handy, I also have an older Gerber and like both.  None-the-less, when shopping for the Blast I notice that the next model down from the Blast is the Fuse and they sell two versions of the Fuse one of which does not have a knife blade.

Hope that helps a bit

how does working in a school rule out having a knife on a multi tool for a hired tech? Is this school policy or is your boss just trying to accomidate school policy? All said it sounds groundless and ridiculous. Outside techs should not have to abide by rules designed for students and teachers.

This looks like exactly what we're looking for.  Thanks.

Our technicians are not hired contractors, but school/county employees.  Generally, we can get away with buying/having our own tools with knives or whatever other un-PC instruments on them, but spending school funding on multitools with knives on them wouldn't be looked very highly on by the administration.
