I was taught, by very persuasive screaming gentlemen in round brown hats, to always give the mag a good firm slap after inserting into the mag well.

I have never had a mag not lock into place using that method. I may have been eligible for the patch in other ways however.

I have totally dropped a mag out like that in fairly close combat.

So I now load 28.  Doesn't mean I won't fuck it up again, but it does mitigate the risk.
