I'm trying to make up my mind on a couple monitors.  I have about $450 to spend which is a self imposed cap.  First I was going to go with a couple Dell 2209WA's which are 22" and have an eIPS panel.  However I'm a little worried about resolution as some have said that the 22's have the same res as a 20 which means dot pitch isn't as good.  So that got me thinking maybe I should just go with 1 24" monitor.  However if I go that route I'll end up with a lesser quality PVA or TN panel.  What do you guys think?

OP, I would recommend going with the two 22" as opposed to one 24." Once I had dual monitors I was never the same.  I don't think I could ever switch back.

Hrmmm, an excellent alternative.

I have a 20 inch dell flat panel that is pretty nice but my main one is a 22 inch dell flat panel ultra sharp and I love it.

Dont know why people use two monitors. I picked up a LG 22" not long ago.

Probably because you've never had two monitors

OP: Go with the two monitors, it makes a massive difference in terms of productivity.

(I have 5 monitors from 3 computers on my desk, I must be really productive!)

I've had luck with both Acer and Hanns-G monitors.
I'd go with 22", one is enough but two is nice.

TigerDirect always has good prices on the Acers.

Then get the 2 20's and save the extra cash.  I have 2 E series WFP 20's on my desk, at $150 each they are a bargain.

I paid about $200 for a 22" Acer with 5ms response time a year ago.

With $400, you can get a nice 24" Samsung, and with $260, you can get an Acer 24".  That's the one I'd get if I were buying today.

I like this DELL 20" Monitor .

I recently bought one to use with a Mac Mini that I bought.

Good picture quality. I could just imagine 2 of those sitting side by side.

Pocket the difference.

Remote management of misc systems at work, web page authoring, play around with virtual machines, Web browsing, media viewing/listening, etc.  I do little to no gaming.

I wouldn't go smaller than 22".  The 20" wide screens just don't have enough vertical real estate in my opinion.  I can't speak for the resolution on the 22" since I've never used one,
but I know a few people who have them and they haven't had complaints.
I'm using one of the older Dell 24" now and it's nice.  Having multiple screens is great for some things, but I don't bother most of the time.
If you aren't in a hurry, you could wait for Dell to have a sale or hunt around for a coupon.  I managed to grab mine for $100 off.

Edit:  2 - 22" would probably be sweet for what you're using them for.

They are currently marked $279 and I was quoted $212 shipped so that's not to bad.
