I've been using a 10 year-old 15" CRT at home. It is finally giving up the ghost and I'm shopping for a replacement. The question is, should I go for an LCD or stick with a CRT? The unit is mostly used for Internet browsing, some light Office applications and the occasional game, but I will probably be upgrading from my AMD 800mhz motherboard to something a little more robust, and adding a video card to my kids can play some of the games they like (Warcraft, Diablo, etc.) What say you all? ps. I already know it...I'm a cheap bastard--I still use dial-up! |
Well general speaking... LCDs cost maybe 100 to 200 percent more for same size screen. LCDs weight 40 to 50 pounds less. LCDs take up 50 perent less space. LCDs use 60 to 90 percent less power. LCDs can have a digital interface (if your video card has digital interface, called DVI). This makes your image oh.. more... go look it up or get someone else to explain the advantage. ![]() LCDs can not do colors as well as CRTs. (washed out look) LCDs can not redraw the screen as quickly as CRTs. (Notable while playing FSP games) LCDs can have pixels die and you get a dot out, and that probably won't be covered on warrenty. |
Thanks! They say that the measure of a man's intelligence is the extent to which he agrees with you. You're pretty damn smart!
