Missouri bill would void federal gun laws, OK machine guns for residents

KEARNEY, MO (CNN) -

The Missouri state legislature is trying to accomplish
something that's never been done: pass a law that'll not only let
residents own a machine gun, but also arrest federal agents if they try
to take it away.

What's more, the bill would make it illegal for anyone to publish any information about a gun owner.

"There are people saying this is the same as seceding from the
Union," said gun owner Kevin Jamison. "Missouri did not secede from the
Union in 1862, and it does not do so by passing this law."

The legislation already passed once through the Republican-led House
and Senate -- only to be vetoed by Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.

Nixon argued that the legislation violated a provision in the U.S.
Constitution called the Supremacy Clause. The Supremacy Clause gives
preference to federal laws over state laws.

Lawmakers insist what they're proposing is not only constitutional, but essential to protect the rights of gun owners.

So Wednesday, the legislature votes to overide the veto.

Won't have any teeth unless MO arrests FEDS trying to enforce federal gun laws in MO...which will never happen.

Needs to be happening a lot faster, there's a fundamental disconnect between people in this country and a split is needed. The Feds are a domestic threat.

They wont be the first to do this. Alaska already did this last year and passed it with the stipulation that is has to be built or assembled in the state.  So in theory if you were to build your own can you would be covered by the state or if you built a machine gun you would be good. I dont know of anyone who has yet to test this yet. When the rubber meets the road the feds will win and id rather not spend years in club fed because the state doesnt hold up on their end of the deal.

How often do feds actually go around investigation such firearms crimes?

I was under the impression they usually show up after locals arrest someone and charge them with said federal crimes.

I have no clue to be honest.

I bet the Feds would try and make an example out of someone.

Yes, they usually wait for the locals to make a state charge and then add a fed charge upon reviewing locals case. They occasionally do their own investigations. My friend got a visit from ATF recently.......

Awesome!

How has the suppressor law worked in Kansas so far?

I wonder if Alabama is far behind? I can't wait to have oil filter suppressors littered around my lawn with my old toilets, hound dogs, cinderblocks and 3 gen camaros. =D.

I wonder if more states pushed this if it would promote a look at Rangel's shenanigans in 1986?

I think WY has a similar law already on the books... built in WY, not subject to federal laws.

In CA, the feds did make occasional visits to legal pot dealers.  Don't know if they've kept it up, or given up.

Anyone have a link to those 1/2X28 to oil filter thread adapters?

Not that I actually think this law is anything but symbolic, it'd be smacked down in Federal court with extreme prejudice.

Not sure why this is so radical when we've got states doing the same thing, just replacing "guns" with "marijuana", and the US.gov has basically said, "that's cool."

Yes, but at least it's humid. They get a couple rainstorms in Spring & Fall.

Wifey's family is there. We got married in August. The tornado sirens woke us up the night we got back from our honeymoon.

Good for Missouri... if it's good enough for weed smokers, it should be good enough for machine gun shooters.

I think Alaska has something to this effect in their state laws (been in there a long time).

Rats. I changed my oil Sunday afternoon and tossed a perfectly good Mobil 1 M1-101 filter.

Garbage truck ran yesterday.

Too bad we are getting turncoat legislators who voted yes to begin with but plan on voting no to over riding the Governors veto. Especially heinous, if true, is Senate President Ron Richard who said he would not bring the bill up for a vote.

That last bit is true regarding catching the "real" criminals; thugs, gang bangers, rapists, drug dealers, thieves etc. But the Feds like to run undercover operations to entrap people that don't want to live with minorities or other that might be part of a "militia" or say or do something else that is deemed politically incorrect.  Ruby Ridge, Waco are both good examples of that type operation. They (the feds) just busted a group down here in Osceola county that they claimed were white supremacists. You'd have thought they captured the Jesse James gang by the sound of their news releases but in the end they dropped charges against ALL of them except for one that plead out and agreed to testify against the others. But he never testified since there was never a trial!  I can't say that I recall ANY busts that the Feds made by themselves other than undercover operations of questionable value and often with serious questions of entrapment.
