I cannot comment on the Mini 14. I had a Mini 30, and it was an absolute piece of shit. Magazines cost an arm and a leg for reliable ones, and the firing pin was too weak to reliably fire cheap 7.62, which meant you had to feed it expensive ammo, which would not have been a problem if it had been an accurate weapon that I could have used for a handy brush gun for deer. Unfortunately, accuracy was miserable. Pie plate at 25 yards, and if you were lucky you could keep 80% of your rounds on a 4X8 sheet of plywood at 100 yards. I paid $700+ for a gun that wasn't the equal of a $150 SKS. Sold it for a loss and was happy to be rid of it.
Right now, you can put together a bare bones AR for less than $600. You'll be much happier with the AR than a I was with my Mini 30. |
| I've had one about 15 years. I enjoyed plinking with it and it never failed me. Once I joined the AR club I haven't paid it much attention. I enjoy the AR platform much more and use them for plinking and hunting. The ones I own are accurate and reliable and will out shoot my mini any day and twice on Sundays. If the SHTF I will probably look to the mini for it's simplicity and durability, or the AK. |

I'd take one in a heartbeat over a sorry ass M1 Carbine! They both suck in accuracy 3 moa at best.
That being said I still have a few Mini's, no M1 Carbines left here, non wanted. One is of the newer laminate stock mini 14 target models bought cheap showed some promise accuracy wise with a straight 6x Nikon Monarch. |

Dont do it, I bought a Ranch rifle in the early 90's. In functioned very well, but the accuracy was horrible. If you are going to be shooting at the side of a barn buy one Barrel whip. Cutting it down to a 16 inch barrel length gun is supposed to make it much better in the accuracy department. Owner of a series 180 mini for many years. |
| My buddy brought over his black tactical version the other day and I shot one for the first time. I though it was a decent gun. He shot a 1.5 inch 3 round group when we where just fucking around shooting steel plates. I know that's not the standard judgement of accuracy, but it showed me it wasn't too bad. It have no problem using one for a truck gun. I may pick something with ergonomics for my go to though. |

Ruger has redeemed themselves since big daddy Ruger bought the farm.
That said..... If you buy a spikes AR and 20 GOOD magazines, it quite a bit cheaper than a Mini and 20 GOOD magazines $725 for ruger after transfer + $700 for 20 ruger 30 rd factory mags ($35 per) = $1425 $850 for spikes after transfer + $300 for 20 Magpul Pmags ($15 per) = $1150 lets look at 10 mags now, the minimum amount one should have IMO $725 for ruger after transfer + $350 for 10 ruger 30 rd factory mags ($35 per) = $1075 $850 for spikes after transfer + $150 for 10 Magpul Pmags ($15 per) = $1000 So in reality, the "cheaper", less accurate rifle is not cheaper. |
| I've had one since 94 and have never thought of getting rid of it. I'm not taking it to any bullseye competions but it will serve the purpose for which it was bought. It eats and spits out everything I feed it even with the cheap American USA mags, never a FTF or FTE. I did get about 10 of the 20 rd Ruger mags when they were put on sale. |

This place should be Mini14.com ![]() NAH then you see the bottom of the line cheapo DPMS Low Pro 16,upper. Armalite mount partially mounted on shit ebay fixed $29.00 handguards. Stag lower,JP light T/H springs, cheap glass and it'll put 10 rounds (handloads) in 1.50 @ 100. has done better if ya want to go 5! rock jr. front rest and bunny bagged rear for both. those ACE stocks don't bag well I've spent very little time with the target mini. It'll probably end up with a 40/44 Weaver. really ya just got to go AR Unless the owner really is not into firearms and performs no maintenance. Then Mini, AK, SKShttp://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/i342/lennyzrx/001-1.jpg Shooting a Mini 14 in a Claw is kind of like coming in 1st place in the special Olympics.
J/K I know it's a taget model |

J/K I know it's a taget model Trust me it showed very well with a 6x scope @ 100 or it would'nt still be upstairs in this house It will be hard to pass that cheapo AR setup you see. Actually there are a few AR's that can't beat that shitwad around here |

Where's that "Not This Shit Again" picture? http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g293/rx7turbo929/not_this_xxxx_again.jpg Just another thread where morons who have never owned, fired, or maybe even seen a Mini can tell us about how terrible the Mini is. Agreed |

I've got an older stainless steel ranch rifle and really like it. It's no AR-15, but its not a bad little rifle. Mini's are what they are. I own a few others. They just can't hang with an AR as far as accuracy. That Target model sure ain't a regular Mini it weighs a good 9lbs.. They serve a purpose just like AK's,SKS..........ect That shitwad DPMS upper $349.00 and any lower you slap it on will give that target model mini all it wants. You can buy all the AR firing pins you want, can't do that with a Mini, can't get a spare bolt unless it's packed back to the factory! AR's are plug and play, Savage bolt guns the same,98 Mauser same. I have all the shit I need to support these weapons without shipping to the factory, wich might not be an option 5-10 years from now |

I'm not one to jump on a bandwagon but considering the abundance of quality AR manufacturers, competitiveness and accessories nowadays it makes no sense to invest in a mini, as it literally does nothing, I repeat NOTHING, better than an AR. Proprietery, overpriced mags and all that jive... fuck em' Seriously. |

Totally agree with Larry G..
Have owned 3 mini's over the last 25 years. The first two were very reliable but not very accurate. Bought a new Tactical blued last year and it is a world of difference. It will shoot 2-2.5 moa with just about any ammo.. Always functions, even with any trash ammo. I also have a Colt AR which is also a great rifle. Pd 1150.00 for the Colt and Pd 650.00 for the Mini. Both have had upgrades. Have never paid more than 30.00 for factory 30 round mags, or 25/20 rnd mags. Use it for one of the 5 tactical weekend courses I've had. No hiccups in 800 rounds that weekend. Cannot say the same for the Ar. or many of the others in the class. Ruger has done considerable improvement over the years. Guess the old stygma stays with the uninformed . |

always think parts supply! the FN SCAR, SIG,MINI, and anything else is basically a toy.
Factory restricted parts is basically shit. There will be NO platform to surpass the AR15 in the private sector in most anyones liftime on this board! Think of it as the old small block chevy! |
