I found this ammo can at an estate sale, it's embossed "CAL 30 M1 AMMUNITION BOX".
I haven't seen any date codes but it's the small wire bail on the side that I haven't seen before. Is this for a .30 cal Browning machine gun ?

Try using evaporust on it. It wont hurt the original paint

Nice WWII and Korean war era .30cal ammo can.

They used to be easy to find but have become rather scarce the last few years.  Still about $15 for them unless it's an oddball maker or version.

As well as the M1 Garand and the M1903.  It's an ammo can for .30-06.  If it was specifically for the Browning MG, it would probably say belted or linked.
