I'm look to purchase an OTF Auto.  It's between a Microtech, no specific model, and the Benchmade Infidel 3300.

Which one should I purchase?  Anyone own both who can attest to which has the best quality?  How about customer service.  I know Benchmade has excellent customer service... but what about Microtech?  Thanks guys.

If you're buying it for bragging rights or to put on on a pedestal and polish once a week like the family silver, get the microtech.  If you are going to use it, get the Benchmade, all of mine have been great working knives.

I carry a Microtech UDT-70 OTF. Small, light wieght and just a neat factor. I did hear that Microtech is no longer in knife production and now tooling to build handguns?

If you mean the UTX-70, I carried one everyday in a suit and tie. It's a great knife, very lightweight and never failed to operate - in or out. It's expensive compared to equivalent non-auto knives, but it absolutely drips with the neat factor. I also have a Halo III and a mini-SOCOM Elite, but those aren't daily carry for me.

Benchmades are built like tanks where Microtechs seem a bit more delicate, like fine precision machinery. I carried and used a Benchmade auto Stryker for a year in Iraq and it never failed me either. Obviously that was a much more austere environment than the suit and tie element that the Microtech saw, and it was a workhorse.

It comes down to the sexy. Benchmade has it, but Microtech drips with it.

Microtech is making a US version of the Steyr AUG. I haven't heard about any handguns yet. Download the brochure: www.msarinc.com/downloads/stg556brochure.pdf

Quality wise....not much difference. My HALO III has no blade play, compared to the Infidel which very liitle. Firing speed is about the same...quick. Both knives come shaving sharp,  and the finsh on both is great. Now of course I'm comparing a single action auto to a double action...but the handle of the Infidel seems to be a better grip than the HALOIII.

Where do you buy something like that Benchmade Infidel 3300 when you're not LEO or military?

Looks like none of the dealers will sell without some ID.

I need to sell my Microtech UTX-70 black with part silver serrated blade. Only carried in my suit pants and opened coffee bags for the ladies at work! With case and shipping for $195.00.  I do Paypal.   I need to purchase lowering shocks for my 88 Super Magna.

The quality of either one is going to be top notch.
M/T did make a statement saying they will not be producing knives until further notice, but will still service customers knives.
I've had several M/T's....OTF's and side openers, and a few B/M's. For whatever reason, I seem to like M/T's a little better.....B/M's are great knives, but I just prefer M/T's.
Can't go wrong with either one though.

I can walk into most gunstores and any Sportsman's Warehouse and buy an auto-knife. Perfectly legal in AZ..

Its hard for me to understand why Microtech would stop producing what made them famous. If this is the case, I'm sure the prices on their auto knives will go through the roof. Better get one soon.

Tough call.....both are very nice knives. If you are going to use it as a carry/work knife...I would go with the HALO only because the Tanto blade is [imo] a better choice for genel cutting then the dagger style. Also I don't know what your areas knife laws are....some areas frown on dagger/double edge blades.

Also it would depend on if the D/A system is important to you as well. The HALO IIIis S/A only, you could also look at the M/T Troodon which as a better choice of blade style then the HALO series does.

I have the Scarab Executive Tanto Plain. Never considered the Benchmade. Carry it daily, use it for everything, prolly need to finally break down and sharpen it...well, touch up the edge really.

Microtech's QC has gone down since they left FL. I never liked the people who run the company and they can be a pain to deal with. My opinion. I love their old M/A folders.

I have seen quite a few of their auto knives break, I also think they are super overpriced.

I don't have a real high opinion of auto knives... A manual can be just as fast, is reliable, and works fine with one hand.

You cant go wrong with a Benchmade.

Ive used a striker 9100 up to the point where the blade had no more room to sharpen. I dont think my Indfidel will get that kind of use. Now my carry knife is the HK black plain blade auto (made by benchmade).

daily use/working knifes are totally different from the OTF infidel/microtech type IMO.

True to a point...quality OTFs are expensive compared to side folders. I'm not a fan of OTFs for working knives because I use knives to cut boxes with...and packing tape gums up blades in a hurry. And if you don't clean the blade you will drag all the crap into the works when you close it.

Then I probably wouldn't get the Infidel.  It just doesn't seem like it has a very useful blade shape.  More like for sitting at home pretending to be a secret squirrel.  I'd say a MT Scarab with a single edge blade.

Although I think an OTF auto is a crappy choice anyway.

I have a manual thumb open Benchmade Stryker 910 for the past 10 years(yeah it 10 years old and I haven't lost it).  The people at Benchmade are reallly nice folks easy to talk to.   The edge is really dull, so I'm going to send it back to the factory for a factory resharpend. I have to pay the return shipping, $5. I've heard that when you return for sharpening, Benchmade will also disassemble and clean. I gave my son a cheisel edge(single)left-handed CQB 7, it is so sharp it will shave the hairs on my arm.

Sebbie snobs I've handled some, wasn't lit up with a holy glow. Great quality knife (more like art) but if you aren't a collector get a Bradley Alias. Same materials, way better price!
