| I just ordered a Microtech auto mini Socom Elite. Did I get a good knife? Ive heard alot o f good things about it, but does anybody here have any personal experiance with it? |
| Microtech knives are made just down the street from where I live. The SOCOM is a good knife. I can't say a good thing about their out-the- front autos though. Other than the cool factor, I'd never own one of their OTF knifes. I own a UDT, and have carried it quite a bit, but you'll usually find my Emerson CQC7 in my pocket. |

I had the orginal Soccom Elite-A. Excellent machining of the handle, super sharp great steel blade. It was a very nice auto, but I don't care for autos. Sold it to a US soldier in Germany who REALLY likes it. Microtech used to be one of the BEST, however I have "heard" that their quality is slipping. Still good, just not as good. Their customer service is still supposed to be good though if you get a 5 o'clock friday knife. They have also started doing stupid shit like using custom tool required screws so that you cannot adjust or maintain the knife yourself. Just because of that, I will never buy another Microtech knife. I don't own knives I cant service myself. The mini is just a smaller version, so it should be a good knife, assuming you don't mind the aforementioned custom screw thing. If you get an older one (might have been on the shelves for a long while) it might have the preferable torq screws. |

I never thought to mention that stpid hardware they use to assemble their knives with. Might have had too much trouble with people taking apart their knives, and not being able to reassemble them. Being as I carry everywhere I go, an auto isn't the best choice for me. I get to see a lot of salt water and sand, and these tend to gum up the works. |

I have a Socom and it's a great knife,it one of the late 90s full size models. I used it to open a ton of cardboard boxs and it keeps a respectable edge. The lockup holds up well,I've done thousands inertia opening and it still as little play. If you check knifeforums.com in the microtech board you can get alot of info on it as I believe Hermes [microtech guru] can get spanner wrenchs for them. All in all I think you will be very happy with it. |
