I'm trying to put together this finished research paper and I am having some issues.

Basically, I need to have three different headers in the paper. One for the cover sheet and outline, one for the page numbers, and a last one for the reference sheet. Each one uses a different format (1, i, I, etc) and I can't seem to get things to work. If I change the heading on one page, it applies to every single one.

Is there a way to split the paper into different heading "sections" without needing to do three separate documents?

I believe if you insert a "section break" will alow you to do this

For the love of Christ, did you not read my last sentence?

See if you can add a toolbar for headers & footers ( if it's not already visible).

I think somewhere in there is an option for making the header different on different pages. For sure, there was one for "first page different",  I used that because I didn't want a stupid header on the first page with a "1" , because it was obviously page one,  and I wanted it to start one the second page with a "2".

I recall it was pretty hard to find and took multiple tries to get it right.   There's a button for the header and one for the footer and I think yet another button for some other function.

I can't say much beyond that as I use Open Office right now, however there should be a Knowledge Base article if you can't find it in the regular help topics.

However I would set the headers & footers at the very last, AFTER you're certain you won't have to insert any more text or outline.   Otherwise there's a chance inserting a page or even a paragraph might cause some shifting that would put

Insert section breaks where you need them.  Then insert your header and footer.
