Wyoming officer Dustin Cook was investigating an early Sunday break-in at a medical marijuana grow site when he scaled a gate to reach
a broken window. On the other side was a sheet of plywood with more than 100 three-inch, threaded decking screws pointing upward. Both of his feet were impaled.“He had three of these things go into his feet,’’ Carmody said, holding a decking screw. “One in one heel and two in the other foot. One went through the center of his foot and did some damage to one of the tendons.’’ http://www.khou.com/news/weird/i-was-very-angry-wyoming-chief-says-of-booby-trap-that-impales-officer-with-deck-screws/408789471 |

I stepped on a board with a big ass nail in it when I was a kid. Right in the middle of my right foot. I am here to tell you that it is not a pleasant feeling!
ETA but I was amused pulling the sock lint out of it while it was healing. |

So where did this really happen ? . |

That grower is going to be receiving a LOT of attention in the foreseeable future...

Ouch
I put 2 nails in my left foot last year. Chipped a bone, nerve & muscle damage. Took 6 months for my foot to quit hurting. |

"Hassle is also charged with carrying a handgun with laser sights."
What does that even mean lol? |

Guess the owner followed GD's advice on home defense That's got to be a shitty way to end a shift. Better than an alligator pit though |

At least it sounds like they were clean, and not smeared with shit.

Perhaps Officer friendly should've contacted the owner somehow before he went scaling fences, no?
The booby trapped "farms" are due to the grey area with which they operate. MI has castle doctrine, but I imagine that the Feds would have quite a few things to say about a medical marijuana farmer shooting some shitbag trying to steal his crops, so this is pretty much the only alternative, make them harder, and much more risky to steal. |

You'd think all the pot needles littering the ground would have been enough.

OP needs to title the thread Michigan Officer Proud New Owner of Medical Marijuana Pharmacy.
This is a variation of always check the corners. That sucks. |

Shooting at them when they arrive, for instance, would not be reasonable. Nor would setting up booby traps and failing to notify the people you called for help that Hey, there might be a trap over there! while they go checking your property for intruders at your request. |

View Quote Exactly. If you want to booby trap your place, that's fine. Just don't have an alarm system that brings the police there. They will rattle all the doors and attempt to check the building if it is unlocked or there are signs of forced entry. It's kind of the point of having such an alarm system. He should file a suit and get some money. The town should get a check for the time he is going to miss at work. |

The key to making a 'nails in board' trap is to make it look completely random and coincidental. Got to give yourself some plausible deniability with man traps.

I had a broken bathroom window on a fire escape when I lived in NYC..
Asked for 4 weeks for landerrr Slumlord to secure it. came home from work to most of my little bit of posessions gone in the wind...probably thru that bathroom window.. so I got a board, some 4" nails, hammered nails into board 3" by 3" checkerboard touched them up with a file, spray painted it flat black and set it on the floor inside the bathroom window. 2 weeks later I came home to said board on opposite side of room, blood trail from toilet seat to the window and never got burgled again.. but it was the 70's and blood oaths against doing such thing were not sworn to the gang upon receiving medical attention. |

View Quote I'm sorry officer friendly, you're expecting me to side with those that enforce unconstitutional laws related to the regulation of a harmless plant? Is it not a reasonable expectation that someone who is supposed to be there, like the proprietor, or an investigative officer friendly, to use the front door, and not try to go in through the back like a criminal? You can always buy better boots that have spike protection. |
