Tell your stories Marines. What does it mean to you?
I'm looking for more detail than "More fun than I thought"...via e-mail from my son at Camp Hansen, Okinawa. Traditions. let's hear your antics. |

Shortly after my Battalion returned from Iraq in 2003 our Regiment had a Mess Night at the Camp Lejeune O Club. After the toasts to the Corps, President, Regiment, and each Battalion the floor was opened up for "fines".
Mr. Vice who deals out the fines and acts as the moderator of a Mess Night was some boot ass 2nd Lt. who was not that entertaining (as a Mr. Vice should be). So, feeling a pressing need to make a head call, I slipped from my chair and began to low crawl out of the dining hall. I was, of course, busted by some Major from Regimental Staff. Everybody of course laughed their asses off as I was directed to report to Mr Vice. The President asked me why I had been lowcrawling out of the Mess Night, I replied that "since ladies were present" I would refrain from going into graphic detail about the pressure building in my bladder and my plan to relieve it. The President said that I could make a Head Call only if I had one more drink while paying a "fine" designated by Mr. Vice. Mr. Vice decided that I would have to compose a limmerick, perform it for the Mess, then drink my drink, THEN make my Head Call. (I must admit, I admired him for that one.) So, as my double SoCo and Coke arrived and I leered drunkenly at the big breasted waitress who served it (THAT got plenty of laughs) I thought drunkenly of the following limmerick, which I think is still on display somewhere in my old Bn CP. ""if liquor was water and I was a duck I'd swim to the bottom and never come up-but liquors not water and I'm not a duck so pass me the bottle and shut the f*%# up!" Now, as an Artilleryman, I admit, I talk a little bit on the loud side, so my public speaking voice is very loud indeed. As the room exploded in laughter and applause (especially from where my Battalion was seated), I fired down my double and raced to the Head laughing like a red faced maniac! When I re-entered the Mess I was roundly congratulated by my Bn Commander who thought I was hilarious and I was immediately provided with free drinks for the Night. That happened when I was a 1st Lt fresh back from the desert. I have always loved Mess Nights as it provides what has become a very rare occurrance in todays Corps, Marines of all grades fellowshiping and socializing with little regard to rank apart from the expected courtesy of the military. It is a shame that Krulak, Van Riper, and others did such a good job of demonizing alcohol and the Club system, I hear it used to be a lot of fun to hang out and hear stories about Nam with your Bn Commanders. As General Lejeune "Lejerne" once said "We are all members of the same great family. On social occasions rank should be laid aside...." |

payback99 I could tell by your post that you were an "Officer & a Gentlemen".....you were coherent....unlike a Marine grunt. However, being Arty, not a Pogue either. Your Mess Night story was what I was looking for. The limerick was not only awesome but also reminded me of an Air Force one. Bare with me, this one comes from my dad ( Airmen 1st Class & Radar Insructor ) who was stationed at Lowery AFB, Denver Co. ( Where I was born in Nov. '54 ).................................... "This is not a Wigwam to beat your tom tom, but a Teepee to take a pee pee" Damn if the Air Force ain't ghey ![]() |

Dan is kind of a freak, him and I were in the same Btry as Lts.
He use to run around the office naked in Oki, not to mentioned I am scared for life because of an incident that occurred at a Toga Party my battery was hosting for the Os of 3/12 and those who lived at Rycom plaza. |

Quoted: "Nightmare" is the Bn Callsign for 1st Battalion 10th Marine Regiment. ![]() Ron- Yeah I saw some pix of old Dapper Dan Geisenhoff out there in Trashcanistan a little while ago. I wound up working with him again out in 3rd MARDIV in early 2006. He's a great American. Fred Pokorney was a good friend of mine, I was up at the North Bridge of The Naz about 15 minutes after he got zapped. I miss him a lot. Cigars to all |

Ron–– When were you out in Okinawa? I was the Bn FDO @ 3/12 from 2005-2006 under LtCol Studdard.
Geisenhoff running around in the buff is nothing new, he used to do that kind of stuff in Iraq too. Ever hear about him punching out HumVee windos at Ft Bragg and breaking a radio handset? Good times. |

My Btry was UDP there in summer of 02. He use to punch things and literally throw us around as Lts. Once at Ft Bragg, after a real heavy rain storm he was observing some of T/5/10's check check rounds with only his helmet, body armor and boots on. The Regt CO drove up, saw him standing there looking through a BC scope, so the Col shakes his head and got back into his HUMVEE driving off. I could just imagine what he was saying to his driver. He should be picking up LtCol any month now, since he is a SAW grad he is a shoe in for a Battalion. |
